President Donald Trump vilified the press again Friday, tweeting that the media are the enemy of the American people and specifically calling out several major news organizations.

Earlier, Trump tweeted and then quickly deleted a slightly different version of the tweet. The revised version includes mentions of ABC and CBS in addition to the other news outlets. All of these outlets have reported on significant controversies involving Trump and his administration, including claims that his team communicated with Russian officials throughout the presidential campaign.

The White House didnt immediately return a request for comment.

Trumps tweet came one day after he spent a major chunk of a meandering 77-minute press conference disparaging the press. He called the media out of control and dishonest. He also blamed what he called the fake media for former National Security Adviser Michael Flynns resignation, claiming reporters treated the former general very unfairly.

He also frequently attacks publications on his Twitter account and has claimed that polls showing negative ratings for him are fake news.

He is insane. We're going to hear this again at this Klan get together in FL.

I guess this is the next logical step after years and years of 'conservative' pundits telling their listeners that all outlets that do not have an explicit 'conservative' bias are part of the 'Lame Stream Media' and therefore cannot ever be believed. Or trusted.

Inadvertently, he's kind of got the kernel of a point here. The potential (and reality) for poor journalism and mis- or under-informing the general public is a real problem in a nation with such heavily corporately-owned media. It's kind of ironic that Trump supporters are now effectively unlettered Chomskyite converts in this regard.

He's not correct in his thinking, though, since obviously FOX are one of the most egregious and obvious examples of this, and he proclaims them as being an exception. To Trump, the media is good/bad based solely on whether they praise him or not. Such is the black/white worldview of a zero-sum simpleton.

Trump was a celebrity before he turned into a politician of sorts. He loved media attention, he loved being loved by the media. That's why it hurts to be so maligned by the very source of his fame. All he wants is the media to love him again.
