We saw the legs and hands on the two dudes- theories on what the thing was on her back? I noticed she always seemed really tired

I don't think she had a power. I think they were manipulating her. She always seemed to wake up at the right time, then go back to sleep.

Her implant was internal whatever it was and it seemed to sap her energy, maybe they gave her artificial lungs and they didn't work properly? Or the port thing on her spine required her to be attached to something regularly. Hahaha, she required charging, that's why she's so sleepy, Nick has kidnapped her but forgot to pack her charging kit.

Maybe they altered her nervous system, hence the implant on the spinal cord area. Maybe she had heightened senses. She once asked what 'that noise was' and seemed intrigued by the insects and games at the visitor centre.

I believe her "power" was in her ability to affect Nick. She was a valuable tool in being a strong emotional catalyst to Nick's behavior. By keeping her alive yet under their influence they could best manipulate the situation.

Her "power" was to be a plot device. No more, no less. She was sleepy when the plot required her to be and surprisingly aware when the scene needed to be progressed. In the beginning she was being developed like a full character but once they got abducted she became a prop.

Since the very first scene of the movie, they are in the simulation. Hayley has an implant that allows the aliens to lead the pace and course of the experiment through her. The experiment to get nic to accept his legs without going crazy from insanity or invincibility hinges on how he reacts to Hayley whose actions are of course led by the Aliens.

Films like this are an ink blot test. You're reading more into it than the filmmakers put there.
