George Harrison : What was George's reaction when Pattie left him?

What was George's reaction when Pattie left him?

Hello everybody,

I have already heard that George was very sad, very upset when Pattie Boyd left him. As a matter of fact, Pattie writes in her book that he asked her not to do it and half of her wanted to stay and give him a new chance, because she loved him very much. But she had already made up her mind to go with Eric Clapton.
She says he was very sad after that, but doesn't go into much detail.

Could anyone tell me more about his reactions?

Thank you!

He was like, oh cool, I love Clapton too.

Really? Just like that? I though it was much more dramatic, hehehe...

Oh yes, he got over it with time and remained friends with Eric and also with Pattie. Pattie even said that sometimes she used to call him to talk, particularly when she was sad, when Clapton and she were having problems. And says he always was kind and patient with her.

Oh well... life goes on and everyone ended finding something good for their lives, which is wonderful. I was just curious about his feelings at that time.

Actually Maya Love was written for Olivia

I'm sure George was very hurt, but he was at fault. He did cheat on Pattie- the final straw being that it was with Maureen, one of her good friends and Ringo's wife! If George hadn't crossed that line, then I'm sure George and Pattie would have worked through their marriage much better or eventually divorced (because George was heavily into meditation at the time). But they did remain friends after their divorce, and I think that was, and still is, wonderful. Pattie considers George to be the love of her life.

George was rather accepting about the whole thing. He recognized that he shared some of the blame and though he was clearly hurt by the divorce, but they still remained on very good terms, and George and Eric Clapton shared quite a mutual respect. I agree, googirl1925, that their friendship was a beautiful thing. Both George and Pattie knew that their marriage was wonderful while it lasted and they treasured its memories even if the end result was different from what either of them had hoped.

I've recently read Pattie's "Wonderful Tonight" book, and I came to the conclusion that it wasn't all George's fault their marriage collapsed. Think about it; she had an affair with Clapton secretly behind George's back. She actively encouraged Clapton with his love letters plus wrote back to him. She too had a fling with Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones (interesting that she didn't mention that one little fact). I think she's just as guilty of committing adultery like George was. They are both at fault.

One of the things that bothered me as I was reading the book was how Pattie tries to make herself seem like an innocent victim, incapable of doing any wrong. She rarely takes any accountability or responsibility for her mistakes or her actions. She tried to make it seem like it was all George's fault, entirely one-sided. It takes two to tango. I think this was what happened.

And irony of ironies, when Clapton finally had his "Layla", he no longer wanted her and treated her the same way that George did. No wonder those 2 guys are such good friends, they have so much in common.

He said, rather philosophically, "Well, I'm going to listen to some fuh king music!" and then played this 45:

Re: What was George's reaction when Pattie left him?

He's British so he probably went something like this...

"Bloody hell the old bird friggin left me. Things are going to be different around here that's for true. Let's go get fish and chips and watch some football,"

That's all I know about British people as an American...

Why do people deliberately try to piss me off forcing me to hurt people?

Re: What was George's reaction when Pattie left him?

They were each other's first loves and spouses, so there is always a deep bond, I read in People in the tribute issue to George when he died in 2001, she was devastated.

George even went to Pattie and Eric's wedding.

Re: What was George's reaction when Pattie left him?

Well George admitted to Rolling Stone in 1979 he went on a bit of a bender after Pattie left. However he was gracious and unbitter in the press conference he did in September 1974 when asked about the split. He also said in 'I me mine' the split had been on the cards for a couple of years (there was a version of the song 'So Sad' about the state of his marriage to Pattie by Alvin Lee which George played on that was issued several months before they split)

George met Olivia about four months after he and Pattie separated and as he goes on to say in that 1979 Rolling Stone interview it all worked out because he met her- he wrote 'Dark Sweet Lady' to express his gratitude. (Pattie published a note from George from late 1974 wishing her and Eric well from Himself and Olivia) Olivia actually accompanied George to Pattie and Eric's wedding reception
