Doctor Who : How would video look on Blu Ray? is it worth it to do more?

How would video look on Blu Ray? is it worth it to do more?

I know that Spearhead is on the only serial that's all on film, and therefore is the only blu ray. But, are there any other serials which used a large proportion of film compared to video? (ie all the stuff in the matrix in deadly assassin for example)

Would video actually look bad on blu ray? Just the same? or would the difference between video and film be more jarring than normal? Anyone know?

I started wondering about this while watching Masque of Mandragora and thinking the exterior shots looked good even with SFX added.

They wouldn't look better enough (than playing the DVD on Blu Ray) to make it worth while. The reviews of "The Next Doctor" prove that.

The jury, as far as I know, is sort of out on this.

Take, for instance, the Blu-Ray release of The Twilight Zone. Something like 6 episodes were shot on video tape. Conventional wisdom says that because they were shot on video tape, the film resolution is too low a quality for Blu-Ray video. Yet, those 6 episodes WERE included on the Blu-Ray release of the series.

While it may not count, officially, there is apparently a Blu-Ray release coming out of a color version of the upcoming black and white animated The Power Of The Daleks. Of course, that new animated footage is probably all digital to begin with, making it a perfect candidate for Blu-Ray release.

I have heard video experts say it would look better, wider colour gamut and true deinterlacing (how DVD deinterlacing is not true escapes me at this point). But I have an inkling that only video experts would really notice these things.

That said, lower compression on some of the releases where 6 or more eps were crammed onto one disc would be nice.

Take them to the security kitchen!
