The story takes place almost entirely in another part of the galaxy. So I reiterate, what does it matter when the story takes place? It could be 1762, or 3748. The year is really only relevant to the opening scene when Peter is abducted.

This is part of the MCU, you know, the universe where Norse gods have been revealed to be real. 2 super soldiers from WWII are still alive and kickin' ass (well, up until one decided to go back in cryostasis). A genius billionaire playboy philanthropist flies around in a suit of armor. Aliens invaded earth through a portal. A scientist turns into an enormous green rage monster. A teenager/young adult has the ability to move things with her mind (and screw with people's heads as well). An android was brought into being with the help of a cosmic gem. The existence of magic is about to become more known (Doctor Strange). A teenager swings around New York as Spider-Man. An Ex-Con wears a suit that allows him to shrink down to the size of an Ant (and additional technology allows him to communicate/control swarms of ants) - the suit can also let him become a giant for short periods of time.

And you're having a problem with a story happening elsewhere in the galaxy occurring in the year 2014?

The only reason I can think of is that it allowed the director or writer to have his music favs from the 70s as the movie's soundtrack. And what a terrible thing it was to have to sit through those songs.

If Peter was abducted by aliens as a child and he's now a grown man it makes sense that only about twenty-five Earth years or so have passed. It also makes sense that the aliens who abducted him would be from a highly advanced area of the Galaxy, seeing as how they possess technology that allows them to travel to and abduct lifeforms from other planets.

It also makes sense that the film is set in contemporary times since the GotG are scheduled to meet up with the Avengers in Infinity War. I don't see what's bugging you about the timeline.

Not really. It's set in another galaxy. So, I don't see what the problem is with the actual time in which the story takes place.

Not disagreeing with you just for the sake of it, but is it actually set in another galaxy, or just elsewhere in the Milky Way? I don't recall anything in the film saying they were in Andromeda or anything.

You know, I can't actually recall. It's been some time since I've watched the movie. Maybe I just assumed that because it felt like they went some distance when they went to the alien brain mining place, and including all the other places they went. Plus, the Kree are involved, and they are known by the Asgardians, and for some reason, I was thinking they weren't in our galaxy either. Could be wrong.

Yes, the MCU has left the locations of pretty much everything outside earth a bit nebulous. Literally.

Technically the Tesseract can take you anywhere in the universe, and the bifrost presumably has quite a range, but other than that, travel seems to be a bit more conventional. We haven't been shown warp drives or anything, but the ravagers have been to earth so it seems unlikely they came from another galaxy to do so.

True. But like you said, they haven't really talked about engines or how they're able to travel or slip through space. But, I agree. I hadn't thought about the Ravagers traveling to Earth when Peter was a kid.

LMAO - yeah I mean, clearly the rest of the universe is behind us in technology so if they want to tell a story about space ships and ray guns it needs to be set in at least 2100 or later.
