Film General : Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I certainly will, unless they totally removed the ranking and listing system, cause that is what I am mainly using IMDb for and I prefer it to letterboxd because it keeps data and statistics more easily accesible.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Yes. I'll still be researching and looking into interesting new films, and rating them. Given that the message boards will be shut, I might write reviews of the films I see in theaters (which I very rarely do now.)

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

So i can read canned reviews from sock puppet shills? No thanks.

IMDb is about the Boards and is nothing without the Boards.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Only just to look up certain movies, trivia, reviews, etc.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Now I come here about every day. After the boards shut down I will probably come here once every 3 months.

New Discussion Boards at The Movie Database

I'll be logging out and heading here.

New Discussion Boards at The Movie Database (TMDB)
https://www.themoviedb.org

Each movie/show page has their own discussions. Use either the small chat icon on the left or about halfway down the page in the Social section is the Discussions link.

TMDB has recently added Discussion boards to their site in anticipation of the closure of the IMDB Discussions.

Re: New Discussion Boards at The Movie Database

how many are using it. I just checked La La Land (a very popular film) and it only has ONE thread, or is it because this site is very new?

Re: New Discussion Boards at The Movie Database

The discussion boards are brand spanking new (added on the 10th). if you start a discussion I've found other start answering with posts. On the La La Land page see the chat icon on the left in the row of icon to get to the Discussions for that film. You can also see a discussion link in the Social section about halfway down the page.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Just to rate but I will be spending far much less time on here.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Mostly just to rate stuff and perhaps update my lists, but if I find other sites that do just as well for those things, then no.

Here's to the fools who dream

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Of course.

Where do butterflies go when it rains? Who goes around & tucks in the trains?

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Nope. I'll be shutting down my account on the 20th.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I'll continue to check IMDb for their actor/director filmographies as they appear to be the most complete (at least for now), and for technical information that's difficult to obtain elsewhere, but will not contribute anything to it. I'll be phasing IMDb out for reviews and showtimes since they can easily be found elsewhere, and visit TheMoviedb.org for their discussions, and Letterboxd, for their reviews, lists, and recommendations. I hope they become integrated at some point. Both of those sites will let you import your lists.

I encourage everyone to support those sites since they listen to user feedback.

Edit: Had to type this from memory because of the stupid "Doh" page, which when I tried to go back didn't save my entry. Word of warning, make sure to save a copy of your post before hitting reply.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I certainly will, unless they totally removed the ranking and listing system

Why would they do that? Not a word has been mentioned about doing anything of the sort.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Maybe.

They call me the wanderer.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I am really not sure. Gonna have to observe for a while, to see how this all pans out. I used to like to leave detailed reviews of movies, until the bloody message board trolls made it dangerous to leave any electronic fingerprints that they could trace back. At the same time, I will miss the message boards so much that I am gravely disappointed in IMDb for shutting them down.

- Oh, SOMEbody asides me is gonna RUE this here particular day

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

What I'll miss the most is the message boards for the individual films. It is so nice that you can read through years of discussion for each particular film. I know that they are trying to do the same on tmdb, but IMDb has stored more than 15 years of film discussion for every single film, ofc. made before 15 years ago.

Just for the record: I think you have one of the best Favorite movies lists I've ever seen.

Thx, it means a lot to me :)

Same here. It may seem that I could be visiting the website a lot less now outside of trivia, credits, and such.

See you Cowgirl, someday, somewhere!

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

not much. i'll check in now n then for the trivia section, which can be fun

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Yes, I intend to.

ALL LIVES MATTER

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Yes, mainly for ratings though. Other than that, what's the point?

See you all at The Movie Database! (TMDb)

I'm so scared your little head will come off in my hands!

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Only for ranking and listing but I'll miss the boards.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I'll use it once in a week (two weeks) just to rate movies/submit reviews/update lists, that's all.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I just think IMDb has too many great lists and is too convinent just to quit. I have also grown accustomed to the design and I have all my list and stuff here.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

A number of IMDb users who recently joined TMDB said you can export all your lists as CSV files and import them over there. I'll see if I can find that thread or how to.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I see how to start. Go to one of your lists and at the very end is a link titled, "Export this list" that will save it as a CSV file. Which is basically a spreadsheet.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I know that, but can't find a way to import on the tmdb site

My All-Time Favorite Movies:http://www.imdb.com/list/ls031367581/

Export and Import a List as a CSV file on an iPad.

I just figured out how to do this on an iPad.

At IMDB go to the end of one of your lists and touch the "Export this list" link.
A spreadsheet in the Safari window will appear

Touch the screen to reveal the "More" link at the top left of the spreadsheet.
(This fades in and out so touch the screen to make it fade back in).

Depending on your setup choose one of these options;
1. Choose the "More" link and the "Add to iCloud Drive" option. (you must have iCloud Drive turned on in Settings)
Save it directly into the iCloud Drive selecting that choice.
It will save as a CSV file.

2. Choose the "More" link and the "Save to Dropbox" option. (you must have a free Dropbox account setup)
Choose the folder or location in your Dropbox and Save.
It will save as a CSV file.

At TMDB go to your Account by clicking on your Name in the upper right.

In the Account list in the left menu, choose the "Import List" option.

Under "Import to which list?" use the drop down menu to pick Rated, Favorite or Watchlist, depending which list you exported.

Under "Select CSV file" touch the "SELECT FILES" button.

Choose either the "iCloud Drive" or the "Dropbox" folder and locate the CSV file you saved.

The CSV file will appear when downloaded. Touch the "Import" button.

How to import your IMDB ratings over to TMDB

One of the main reasons it hurt me to leave IMDB was the almost 1400 movies I had rated over there. I really didn't want to go back there to see what I had rated a film in the past and just wanted to abandon them altogether. Here is how you can bring your ratings over.

When you log into IMDB, on the top right corner you will see your name. Mouse over it and choose "Your Ratings" .

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see "Export this list" . Click on there and save the file somewhere on your computer that will be easy for you to find.

Next, log into themoviedb and go to "your account" by clicking on your user name in the top right corner.

On the left side of the screen you will see "Account" with a list of options. Choose "Import List."

Choose "Rated" when it asks to choose which list you are importing it to.

I did this and out of 1400 maybe 20 of them didn't go through and they were ratings of individual episodes to a TV show.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Yes, of course

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I don't see the reason why so many are leaving. It is still great at keeping track of the films you watch.

My All-Time Favorite Movies:http://www.imdb.com/list/ls031367581/

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Indeed, + you can still see lists, trivia, related films, reviews,

Why leaving?

IMPORTANT: IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content.
As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic. See more

How many millions of their users visit these discussion board daily after watching a movie or show episode? I imagine it's a rather large number. I don't recall being asked if my experience here was no longer positive. I wasn't asked if I'd rather discuss topics from here on my very annoying FaceBook account. So I'm skeptical about their "careful consideration" of my needs. I'm not alone.

I joined this site the moment I discovered it had discussion boards on individual films, shows and topics. I tend to read the boards first, then examine the content on the films page.

https://www.themoviedb.org has individual film pages with reviews, favorite, ratings, watchlists and you can IMPORT your lists from HERE to THERE. The page layout is much easier to look at IMO. I saw IMDB grow over the years because of the traffic from their users. They're big because of that. They dropped us, not the other way around. So I'm happy to work with the staff at TMDB to help build their site into something even better.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Nope, what's the point

This site will never again be visited by me. I'd have no further use for it.

ALLONZEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I'll only be using it to find out what the year's new releases are. There's going to be no sense of community, so asides from that, I'll only be using it as a reference tool.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

It was some years after I joined Imdb that I started using the boards, so I shall carry on using the site. The boards aren't necessary for my enjoyment of the site, they are irrelevant.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Yet you've posted here every.single.fking.day for how many years?

Get the fk off this board!

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Yes.

Life can be arbitrary and comes without a warranty.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

If I do, I know it wont be very often. Maybe once every week or so for like 5 minutes.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

No I am going to use other sites. I could still use imdb but I think removing the forums is a stupid idea so I will other sites out of protest. I find that themoviedb.org is just as good as IMDB in terms of movie info and db. I don't like their forums though. I will probably find somewhere else to use just for a forum, maybe imdb2.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Frankzappayay,
The forums are brand new and are being upgraded literally daily using suggests from the many new member from here. If their something you'd like to see done to them, jump in and ask. Chances are it may already be in the works.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Another VERY cool feature recently added!

New feature: push notifications and notification centre
posted by Travis Bell on Feb, 15 2017 at 03:17PM
Fresh off the press is a push notification and notification centre. You'll see a "bell" icon sitting next to your username for this. Notifications update automatically so you don't even need to refresh the page. If a new notification comes in, BING (there's no sound, that's just me), it appears.

One cool thing is that by using these notifications (by clicking the links to go to the item that is notifying, ie. a discussion), only the first reply is thrown into view which means you automatically get a "jump to newest" thread functionality. Pretty cool, right?

Things left to do for this feature:

Add a "mark all as read" button DONE
Hook up mentions (right now it's just replies)
Show it in the discussion pages, and not just the rest of the site. DONE

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Yes, but I will go from spending a few hours a day here to about 10 mins a week.

Somewhere there is a land of peace, acceptance, love, and equality. Pray they do not allow humans.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Unless they keep the board I'm gonna look for replacement sites as this will only function as a place to review, make lists and keep a watchlist on but alot of sites have watchlists and ability to make lists and stuff on.

It is all the unique messageboards that make IMDb special.

Letterboxd for instance looks like a valable site to switch and put my watchlist and stuff instead on, so I'd rather use that I think than to generate traffic to a site that doesn't care about their users (unless they are IMDb Pro users).

10.000 people, 10.000 signatures, 10.000 voices

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

I'll use the Watchlist and Check-In features, but that'll probably be it.

Re: Will you keep using IMDb after the 20th?

Nope.

Originality needs a reboot.
