Bud Abbott : Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

I have seen it a few times and Costello comes off as pretty nasty. Did anyone ever see it and was it truthful or false? I know that Costello's daughter did not like how her father was portrayed.

Re: Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

From what I've read about Lou...He did have his nasty moments.

Re: Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

So there was some truth to it then? I guess I should not be surprised from what we read about some of these celebrities.

Re: Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

Yeah. :( I was really disappointed when I read about it.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

Well, he was upset due to the drowning of his infant son, which is what this film seems to concentrate on-the aftermath of that. Lou also would get angry if he wasn't being treated right by the studio heads, which happens even today since most of them don't know any creative stuff and care about making money only.

Hi,one can never be too rich or have too many friends. Lou Costello always had sort of a babyish quality about him so it seems strange they cast such a negative personaility like Buddy Hackett to play him. Lou's daughter said Bud and Lou had differences but they weren't bitter enemies or anything like that. They each had their own families and social circles so they pretty much kept apart when they weren't working.

Re: Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

Buddy Hackett wasn't negative at all. He wanted to play Lou and even knew him. In fact, when Lou's daughter Carole got married she asked Buddy if he would give her away because he reminded her of her father, who was gone by then.

Re: Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

I saw it when I was a kid and don't remember too much of it. Of course, that night I was also sick. Many people didn't like it because of the way it portrayed Bud and Lou. Yes, Lou seemed to come off as real nasty. The problem was Eddie Sherman, who was their manager, dictated the book to Bob Thomas, and didn't really put an effort into it to do a good job. Betty (Bud's widow) was still alive at the time and they didn't want to pay her so it looked in the film like Bud was single. The Abbott and Costello Scrapbook tells more of this whole story.

Re: Did anyone see that movie 'Bud and Lou?'

Another inaccuracy was that Abbott was portrayed as a bachelor.
