Re: What has the world come to
I'd hate to imagine a world without Abbott and Costello.
Re: What has the world come to
The interesting thing is that when I was a kid growing up in the '70's, EVERYONE knew who Abbott and Costello were, they were hugely popular. WPIX in NY played their movies every Sunday, and the TV show was in constant syndication. Plus, the 70's was kind of nostalgia-craze time - Marx Brothers and W. C Fields were also really popular. It does seem that today A & C have been lost in the shuffle a bit, but I can tell you - not with me.

Like you, my brothers and I always watched A & C on WPIX during the '70s and '80s. To this day, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is the film I have seen the most in my life, bar none, because I saw it on that station so often.
The nice thing is, if you try, you can make Abbott and Costello fans of the younger generations when they're young and haven't developed a phobia against B & W films yet. I did this with my teenage niece when she was very young and she's in agreement with me - A & C were the greatest comedy team of them all.
No blah, blah, blah!
Re: What has the world come to
I agree with everything you said, and I actually think A & C Meet Frankenstein is a PERFECT movie - total entertainment from first to last frame. Comedy gold from beginning to end, not one weak moment in the film, and EVERYTHING moves the plot forward.

It is a perfect film based on its entertainment/comedy value, though not necessarily based on its individual parts. The sum of its parts, though - a grand-slam homer!
No blah, blah, blah!

I re-watched ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN again today. Such a fun film and good to see Bela Lugosi as Dracula.
I think this is the definitive Abbott and Costello movie.
