Paddington : worst film in a long time
Re: worst film in a long time
I would have enjoyed it more if they didn't insist on shoving the moral of the story in my face for the last third of the film (or whatever). I've seen that with other modern films. Why do they do that?

What sad lives you must have. Very entertaining and enjoyable film.
Re: worst film in a long time
I'm more entertained by much older films (mostly pre-1970 movies) in which they don't go shoving morals down my throat.

Re: worst film in a long time
Well, Paddington is based on a series of books that are mostly pre-70s with the first one coming out in the late 50s.
The movie actually had a lot of references to the books and I felt it did a great job of trying to be inclusive to anyone that has fond memories of those books or whatever (I'm not actually one of those people and was Dr. Seuss and Curious George for my earliest books). I truly am not an expert on the Paddington series but with the nature of the movie, I felt it played out fairly similarly to what a children's book should.
I mean this is a book about Paddington Bear! It is a licensed product as such, I think you have to make some concessions to the idea that the movie should play out accordingly.
But even ignoring the idea that it is a licensed product based on a hugely successful children's book it IS a children's movie so yeah, there's that as well.

Re: worst film in a long time
Totally agree. It was entertaining and visually engaging.
Re: worst film in a long time
Worst? Seriously?
I'm not british. not even american - I am from Baltics and I liked that movie.
Because british and american film industries are quite different I usually watch american movies because most british movies has not "that action pack" (even not in family movies).
But this movie is one of the fewest british movies I could watch.

Re: worst film in a long time
This is way above the croods but to each his or her own.
Re: worst film in a long time
You need to watch more movies then. If you do watch a lot of movies then the title of your post is the worst in a long time.
Re: worst film in a long time
You disliked it so much that you had to post a thread about it?
I quite liked it. I guess I must be 3.

Re: worst film in a long time
You didn't like a movie. When you buy a movie ticket that's the chance you take. Big deal, you waste time doing a lot of things I suspect.

" i could have wrote a better script for the kiddys!"
As that sentence should read 'I could have written a better script for the kiddies' you've just proved you couldn't!

Re: worst film in a long time
Er. The policemen had collected the wallets Sorry. Good film.
Re: worst film in a long time
You have to love when a superior tone is adopted by someone who, judging by his misspellings an lack of punctuation, is barely literate. But that's just me.
Re: worst film in a long time
No, it's not just you, MEtraut. Bingo.
Re: worst film in a long time
I feel sad for anyone who's so jaded that they can't appreciate how sweet this movie is; I was smiling ear to ear.

Well said - ditto for me! Absolutely delightful film for children but fortunately I loved it too (grandma!).

Re: worst film in a long time
i will agree! grandmas always right! i guess i shouldnt have posted this, its just not my thing. if it puts a smile on peoples faces then its got a big place somwhere. p.s i hate marmalade too
Re: worst film in a long time
Well, I found it boring, poorly written, cliched and badly acted, clearly written only for very young children without any consideration for a broader audience. So, I feel sad for anyone who feels so superior that they "feel sad for anyone who's so jaded that they can't appreciate how sweet this movie is". But I am glad you enjoyed it nonetheless.
No, I drink your milkshake bitch!

Re: worst film in a long time
BEST FILM in a long time!!!
Re: worst film in a long time
The understated charm of this film clearly escaped you. Your loss.
You know it makes sense.

Re: worst film in a long time
I loved every bit of it. So there could something wrong with me, because I am not 3 years old. But there is a higher possibility that there is something wrong with you.
Re: worst film in a long time
I'm 56 and my partner is 41. We have no kids. We watched this on the recommendation of a friend and found it utterly delightful. A very well made adaptation of a much loved children's book. I wouldn't go as far as 'the best film ever' but it's certainly nowhere near as bad as the OP would have you believe.
Re: worst film in a long time
I stopped it about forty minutes in. That teenage daughter, omg would someone gag her please?! The annoying mother and the boring, over cautious dad was just too much. The bear is adorable but the family ruined it big time for me.
