Interstellar : The best Sci-fi movie ever?

The best Sci-fi movie ever?

The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Lol not even close to being the best scifi movie of the year it was released.

Best scifi movie ever is easily Star Wars or Prometheus.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Star Wars is a space opera and Prometheus, while being a good movie is not better than Interstellar.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Prometheus is far better than Interstellar. Interstellar is too contrived, too Nolan. It's not even a great movie.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Too Nolan is what makes its great. I like Prometheus but I like Interstellar better. Traveling in space and entering a worm hole would be awesome.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Interstellar is trash and the fact you think it's anything else shows what a moron you are. I bet you work at 7-11 and live with your parents.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

No. That would be 2001:A Space Odyssey.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Ah no, 2001 is stupid. It was probably good in 1970 but it doesnt hold up.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

It holds up fine! Especially HAL who is more relevant than ever now.

😺 Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't. 🤨 Let's go, Brandon! 🤨 Try that in a small town.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?…

JUST like "OBIT"!

"THAT'S SOME BAD SHIT, HARRY!".

2001: A Space Odyssey: Greatest film of all time!

First of all, it premiered in 1968, not 1970, and it has not only "held up", there's never been a better film made before or since, Sci-Fi or otherwise. It's the film that changed how movies were made, and how we view them.

It is an all time classic! Rating 10/10!

PS Interstellar: Rating 7/10.

2001: A Space Odyssey: Greatest film of all time!

I know, I was implying by the time everyone saw the movie it was 1970. I tried to watch it and it was incredibly boring.

2001: A Space Odyssey: Greatest film of all time!

No offense, but you're obviously not into intellectual sci-fi.

Blech

Interstellar is high brow sci-fi. Most people dont get it.

Blech

Nowhere near as high as 2001.

😺 Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't. 🤨 Let's go, Brandon! 🤨 Try that in a small town.

Blech

Well most people were taking acid in the late 60's.

Blech

No they weren't. Druggies were a very small minority.

Interstellar

And they all watched 2001 and thought it was great. It was a good movie back in the 70's but by todays standards, its a terrible movie.

Interstellar

You obviously have no taste for profound and intellectual sci-fi.

You should watch it in 4K with a 7.1 surround. Its stupendous.

If a film needs the crutch….

If a film needs the crutch of being seen in the cinema, it's not great. It's not bad, but it's not great.

If a film needs the crutch….

This is at my house. I have a Nakamichi 7.1 surround system.

Still….

Better than your old man mono sound. lol 😉

If a film needs the crutch….

Still doesn't make it a great movie.

2001 = Crap

Yeah it does. Have you even watched the movie? The soundtrack alone is amazing.

Interstellar = 💩

Yes, and it was 💩 .

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

I don't think "INTERSTELLAR" is the Best but I do think that it is 1 of the many Best.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

More like worst

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

it's up there as 1 of the best in a group of good ones.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Not even close. Much of what happens in the movie is complete rubbish.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Kip Thorne helped produce the movie and its accurate to what is known.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

They take valid, weird things in physics, of the sort Kip Thorne is an expert on, but show them happening in ways that are misleading or physically impossible.

For example, time will really pass slower for you when you are close to a black hole relative to the way it passes for someone far away. That part is true. But it wouldn't happen the way the film shows it happening.

Nolan tells the truth by lying a little about it. It is lazy writing, but not uncommon. One just expects better from him.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Can you create a video on how black holes work in regards to time dilatation?

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

No, but PBS Spacetime and other sources have a lot of great science videos on YouTube that go over the subject if you don't like reading books.

What the movie gets wrong is that for minutes to pass for our landed characters while decades pass up on the mothership, they'd have to be much, much closer to the black hole than they were–edging right up to the event horizon. When you are that close to a black hole, the gravity would rip you to pieces, and the radiation from matter getting sucked in would have killed you before that.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

I thought you were the go to expert on theoretical physics and gravitational physics and astrophysics? I assume you called Kip and told him he was wrong?

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

The mistakes were made by Nolan and company, certainly not by Kip Thorne. If Thorne even knew that the scene would play out that way he definitely would have told them it was not accurate.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

So basically, Nolan should have consulted with you and not Kip? You should make your own movie and get it right.

Would love to see a movie by MagneticMonopole Productions.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Excuse me, shit for brains, what I'm telling you is that Nolan either didn't listen to Thorne on this point or Thorne was not consulted as much as you think he was.

I'm telling you exactly what Thorne would if he were in this discussion: time dilation of minutes to decades would only happen with the main characters being much closer to the black hole than the film shows them.

This is an indisputable fact about Einsteinian physics. You just happen to be a well of bottomless ignorance when it comes to science.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Can you call Noland or Kip and check on what was said during the production of the movie?

How close were they to the black hole and at what distance does the time dilatation start?

Can you make a short video to show how black holes work in relation to time dilatation?

Also, I cant wait to see your interpretation of Interstellar.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Hey, fuckwit, guess what–Kip Thorne agrees with me!

He himself admits that the time dilation appearing in the film can't happen under normal circumstances and is totally sympathetic with scientific criticisms of the film on these grounds.

In order to justify what we see, he invented a highly unusual black hole with special characteristics normally not found in nature which would allow what we see to happen. He cheated, by imagining that the black hole was spinning at a highly unusual rate. Once he did that, the math permitted what we see on screen.

Happy now?

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

No he doesn't, you just made that up. Where is my movie about time travel and black holes? You should release in 2025. Thats when Trump will be President again.

Re: The best Sci-fi movie ever?

Excuse me, you dumb piece of shit, but he wrote a companion book to the fucking movie.

In that book, he wrote that critics of the way time dilation appeared in the film were right, but that he could "save" the movie and "correct" the error by imagining that the black hole had an unnaturally high spin rate. Only if it had the right kind of spin could what you see in the movie actually happen.

TRUMP

If he was right then it would have been in the movie. When does your movie come out? Have you started casting yet?
