The Watercooler : Is it weird that I never miss my parents?

I go long periods of time without seeing or talking to them and I always feel like I could wait even longer. They weren't bad parents or anything and my mom especially is very nice but when I interact with them I feel like i'm checking something off a to do list.

Do you ever miss anyone?

Some people will always express how important family is and say things like "blood is thicker than water", but we can't choose our parents and some of them can be terrible people or even just simply boring or uninteresting.

I lost all respect for my mother due to her behaviour. My father was absent for most of my childhood. My younger brother would do ****ed up things like perform oral sex on our pet dog. I didn't cry at my grandfather's funeral because I barely knew the guy.

I don't miss my family, ever. I do sometimes feel sorry for them because despite their flaws and actions, they had their own challenges in life. But they are not people I want to spend time with.

The family you can't choose aren't always nearly as important as the family you can choose.
