Film General : IMDB is making a HUGE mistake….
Re: IMDB is making a HUGE mistake….
By taking away the message boards, they are actually getting rid of more clicks and hits to their website. There are people who come here to imdb.com simply to discuss films/get reviews/or engage in an intelligent discussion on the meaning of a particular piece of work/actor.
Nowall of that will be taken away.
You're absolutely right, but it seems that their minds are made up.
As is so often the case, the good have to suffer because of the actions of the bad.

You strung words together to form sentences.
And you quoted the OP as well.

That's so true. :(
I just wish they had given us more time to really enjoy the boards Or, least a WARNING maybe??
Maybe just something saying that if the conduct on the boards continues, they will cut the forum off in a month. That would give even the trolls or trouble makers time to shape up or ship out (if they want). But to not even give a warning???
Oh well. You're right, their minds are made up.
And who knows, maybe it's not JUST the behavior on some of the forums that was the final decision that made them shut it down. Maybe it had to do with money. Usually it's always about money. Either not enough money is coming in, or it wouldn't be cost-effective to spend MORE money trying to moderate a site's multiple forums (I mean think about it, EVERY single actor and EVERY single movie on this site has a forum. That's a LOT of forums!)when only a handful of people post per day/week.

Clicks to their website doesn't put money in their pockets.

Look at the amount of publicity you see while navigating the message board (if you are one of the very few message board user that do not have a adsblocker active), do you think loosing that traffic mean loosing money ?
37% of IMDB traffic seem to be from China for an example, I doubt they use message board much.
How good of an idea it is, depend a lot on what they gain in term of content (I suspect studio exclusive content for their movie on their IMDB page).

I'm sorry, but I just can't help but feel that IMDB is making a terrible mistake. :(
I understand (somewhat) why they're doing it, but don't think it's a good idea.
Oh well
