Star Trek: The Next Generation : Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

I think its generally accepted that TNG didn't really get good until season three. I've been watching a lot of TNG episodes lately on Netflix including episodes from the first two seasons which I have generally avoided in the past.

But I'm starting to think that maybe those two seasons weren't quite as bad as I remember.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

I feel that the first two seasons were not that great. I only started watching the show on a regular basis at season three.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

i'm currently on season 4. season 2 is so far my favorite season.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

I don't think S1 and S2 deserve the bad rap they get, more so S1 since S2 did suffer from the writers strike of the time. By S3 They'd improved on the initial look of the sets and costumes, the actors were comfortable with the roles. While the change in writing to be core character driven rather than alien of the week was a big change it wasn't the only component in my opinion that lead to the success of the show.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

They were sort of a necessary foundation. They served to develope the characters and get people invested in them. Without them, the later episodes wouldn't resonate so much with viewers. But most of the episodes were pretty crappy (especially Season 1) with the exception of a handful, most notably The Measure of a Man and Q Who.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

Oh, they were bad, and I mean BAD. S1 was utter crap, but S2 would've been better, but they had to have Pulaski Bitch, so it's JUST as BAD.

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

I think I've always thought of them as uneven, with some definitely bad episodes but a lot of good ones and the characters OK to good from the start, and still believe that.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

OTOH my opinion of season 7 has declined over the last rewatch (although I hadn't seen several before), a big step down from the rest although still some good episodes.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

There's some good episodes but it looks like sht.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

My opinion is still essentially unchanged, but in a strange way, the first two seasons being relatively subpar only makes me love the show more. There's a real joy in watching the series dramatically improve to the point where it's almost unrecognizable from its beginnings.

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

The first two seasons aren't half as bad as people make them out to be. Season two with Pulaski is phenomenal.

RIP Gene Wilder. RIP Barbara Hale. You were great in Perry Mason. RIP William Christopher.

my opinions changed of your A55H0LE! it stinks like A55!

Re: Have you changed your opinion of the first two seasons?

If it were up to me, Geordi would've been chief engineer in season 1 instead of a bridge helmsman. Ten-Forward would've been seen. And Dr. Crusher would've still been there in season 2.

Also, Worf's hair would've been longer and in a ponytail like it was in seasons 6 and 7. Instead, it would've been like that throughout the whole series.
