I agree with all of the above and would like to add 'The Gazebo' and also in probably his most perfect role 'Teahouse of the August Moon' where he was both hilarious and very moving.

all dated; and mediocre, per say. "Human Desire?" maybe? "The Big Heat?" After that- his roles didn't come to much. Although not successfull; "Cimeron," may have been under rated. He started stepping out again in roles like, "Rage," and, "The Brotherhood Of The Bell." His role as Jonathan Kent in, "Superman," may have been his swan song. His work as the Irish father in, "The Family Holvak," was quite good, however he never quite reached his promise. George Stevens had originally wanted him as, "Shane." might have been a great signature performance. I enjoyed, "The Courtship Of Eddies Father," playing against type.
