Horror : Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

I've only seen three Ghosthouse , Eaten Alive and Cannibal Ferox. Wondering what other ones are worth checking out?

Re: Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

Nightmare City is definitely worth checking out.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

Re: Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

Nightmare Beach 5/10
The Hell's Gate 3/10
Ghosthouse 3/10
Thunder Squad 4/10
Daughter of the Jungle 2/10
Cannibal ferox 7/10
Nightmare City 6/10
Eaten Alive! 6/10
Eyeball 4/10
Spasmo 7/10

Re: Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

Yeah I wasn't a fan of Eyeball either. harsh on Ghosthouse though.

Check out his Almost Human (1974), it's a nicely gritty Dirty Harry knock off.

Hey, look at that! She's not crazy, she's being chased by a cheetah!

Almost Human (1974)
Second the rec for Nightmare City
House of Lost Souls (1989) isn't bad.
Hell's Gate has its moments and is somewhat amusing overall.

Re: Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

I've only seen Cannibal Ferox and Welcome to Spring Break. Both were just okay. I actually liked Welcome to Spring Break but felt it just needed more gore. Cannibal Ferox was okay but I liked Dr. Butcher M.D. so much better.

Re: Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

Dr Butcher is awesome and one of the more overlooked Zombie flicks it seems, plus the Cannibal addition was pretty cool. I much prefer the title also, as over my way it was called Zombie Holocaust, which is a bit generic.

Re: Best Umberto Lenzi movies?

The ones I have seen:

So Sweet, So Perverse (1969) - 4/10
Oasis of Fear (1971) - 7/10
Deep River Savages (1972) - 6/10
Knife of Ice (1972) - 6/10
Seven Blood Stained Orchids (1972) - 8/10
Spasmo (1974) - 8/10
Almost Human (1974) - 7/10
Eyeball (1975) - 7/10
Manhunt in the City (1975) - 7/10
Violent Naples (1976) - 6/10
Eaten Alive (1980) - 6/10
Nightmare City (1980) - 7/10

Lenzi definitely made entertaining films of various genres. I kind of like his sledgehammer approach to directing. He never brought subtlety or understatedness to the table at any point that I am aware of and that is part of his appeal.
