Is there a star trek vinyl release after the final frontier movie ?

The last vinyl released for a star trek movie i know is part 5 "the final frontier".
Am i right or someone of you know further vinyl O.S.T releases of the rest star trek movies which followed "the final frontier" ?

Re: Is there a star trek vinyl release after the final frontier movie ?

Can't think of any. I'm pretty sure vinyl was phased out at that point in favor of CD.

Re: Is there a star trek vinyl release after the final frontier movie ?

Well....the next star trek movie was the 1991 movie called "the undiscovered country"
In 1991 vinyl was still prodused but i don't know if they released it for this movie or not.

for example they released a vinyl O.S.T for another 1991 movie called "freddy's dead, the final nightmare" so anything is possible.

True, anything's possible. If Star Trek VI-The Undiscovered Country was released on vinyl, you answered your own question, didn'tcha?

I don't know why you'd want vinyl anyway. Vinyl sucks. You'll probably argue that vinyl sounds "warmer" or "richer" than CD somehow.

I was into vinyl before CD was introduced, had quite a few scores, like Jaws, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Superman-The Movie, Altered States, Capricorn One and Quest for Fire, had a nice turntable with diamond stylus, and let me tell you, those vinyl records sounded silky-smooth until about the 5th or 6th play, when the inevitable pops, clicks, skips, scratches and other surface noise began rearing their ugly heads. On symphonic, orchestral music like soundtrack scores, that had quiet passages, this surface noise was positively horrendous during those quiet passages, and was irritating as hell.

Record-cleaning products like DiscWasher yielded short-term results, then put a layer of film on the record that made it sound even worse than before cleaning.

In the analog days, one had to dump the record to reel-to-reel at 15ips tape speed, preferrably through a dbx noise-reduction encoder/decoder, to preserve some of that "warmth" and "richness" of the vinyl record before the DiscWasher dried and the vinyl record sounded like crap again. Too high-maintenance for me. Records encoded with dbx noise-reduction drastically reduced the surface noise by 30db, but didn't kill the grit. Soundtrack albums weren't encoded in dbx anyway, only popular artists' albums like Styx-Pieces of Eight.

How "warm" or "rich" a recording sounds is really a quality of the mastering process, not the format. CD mastering is quite good now.

I just received Cliff Eidelman's score to Star Trek VI-The Undiscovered Country on CD, BTW, and it rocks.

Re: Is there a star trek vinyl release after the final frontier movie ?

1) I don't know if "undiscovered country" released on vinyl that's why i'm asking you or anybody else who may knows if that movie and the rest star trek movies which came afterwards were ever released on vinyl or not.

2) Hey...i agree about your vinyl vs cd analysis. I only want to have those vinyl scores for collectable reasons. not because i want to listen to the vinyls but just to own the covers (their pictures inside....etc)
I already have the similar cd releases so i listen to the cd's while i just watch the vinyl covers. they are great.
Last vinyl i bought was night of the living dead. an excellent cover indeed.

Ah. Well...I don't know.

Night of the Living Dead. Wow, that's going back to '68, isn't it?
