Blonde : Just started watching this now

Just started watching this now

I think it was @Panther who said she was disappointed in this?

I figure I'll give it a try and see what I think. It's not off to a very promising start.

Re: Just started watching this now

I was intrigued at first, but the more I read about it, the more it seemed like an excuse to basically torture and humiliate the lead actress. Don't want to see that.

Re: Just started watching this now

I'm actually going to watch that Movie later on today.

I hope that it will be good.

Re: Just started watching this now

Yeah I thought it was downright awful.

Re: Just started watching this now

I read a review calling it a torture porn bio.

Re: Just started watching this now

Yeah that pretty much sums it up lol.

Re: Just started watching this now

I only caught the preview that Netflix shows when you browse a film/series. And felt zero desire to watch it. 🤣

Re: Just started watching this now

Yeah the previews didn't inspire me that much, but I do love Marilyn so wanted to give it a chance.

Re: Just started watching this now

I think I'm one of the rare ones who skipped the Marilyn Monroe and James Dean worship completely.

Re: Just started watching this now

I've been reading in my newsfeed all over that despite the initial standing ovation this movie received, it's still only rated at 35% on RT and many people can't get past the first 20 minutes. Lots of bad reviews and bad impressions.

Re: Just started watching this now

I probably would have watched it but then I read a review a few days ago which totally put me off. It involved a scene which sounds like they well and truly crossed the line in terms of getting up close and personal with MM.

Re: Just started watching this now

I think I know the scene to which you are referring.

I'm 1:09 in, have seen it. I'm turning it off now, it's really not that great of a movie. Plus, whoever the actor is playing Marilyn isn't doing a very good job. I dunno, I don't get the hype. This had the potential to really show something, to be something, but they're dragging their feet, they're skipping huge swathes of time, and I think losing an hour of my time to this fodder is enough.

Time to move on to something new. Or something old. Either more Jason Momoa in Stargate Atlantis, or I'll find some of those movies I've put on my horror list and indulge.

Re: Just started watching this now

I didn't care for the actress playing her either. Seemed forced and fake with her speaking. What also is a bummer is they got her costumes/outfits throughout the movie of different points in Marilyn's life right on point, but it just lacked in everything else. Could have been so much more.

Re: Just started watching this now

Definitely too forced, and other than a few costumes and press clippings, everything else felt forced, so I moved onto greener pastures.

The actress is all wrong for this part.

Re: Just started watching this now

Seeing as how she was uncomfortable with the blown up skirt image from Seven Year Itch I think it’s unbelievable that they did this extremely personal scene. Admittedly I haven’t seen it but what I read completely turned me away from watching.

Re: Just started watching this now

They used to have those fan machines in fun houses, where men, of course, would be the operators of such, and blow the air up women's skirts as they were walking over a grate that they had to walk over to continue through.

Even the opening scene of her "audition" where nothing was shown but plenty implied, it's a testament to the truth, given the Harvey Weinsteins of the world.

Re: Just started watching this now

Great movie men love it. Haggy females jealous of the actress.

I enjoyed it. Ana is sexy as fuck even in that granny wig. She can do no wrong. I liked the blowjob scene and movie theater finger bang threesome 💦

Re: Just started watching this now

Why did she have blue eyes? I found them too distracting.

Re: Just started watching this now

Because she was playing a woman with blue eyes

Re: Just started watching this now

Andrew Dominik doesn't seem to be fond of making movies that are widely beloved. His instincts seem to draw him more toward making very polarizing films. Read somewhere where he was emphatically telling people Blonde's not a movie that everyone will love and some will outright hate (I think he was asked about its NC-17 rating and prospects for Academy Awards).

I feel like it's going to be a similar case to Only God Forgives. People are going to struggle with it just because of the subject matter and how unforgivingly bleak it is. Doesn't really seem like anyone's really making compelling arguments for why it sucks. They're just saying they couldn't stomach it.

So I'll probably be fine with it. Might not love it; probably'll just appreciate its craft and be a little annoyed that the director opted for being all symbolic and ambiguous instead of telling a great story. But I highly doubt the movie's really anything awful.

When I am king you will be the first against the wall, with your opinion which is of no consequence at all.

Re: Just started watching this now

Yes, from what I understand, many people just couldn't take how exploitative it was, with many commenting that it seemed gratuitous or just a way to mar the late star's reputation given this is by its own admittance a "fictionalized documentary" based on a book.

I think they did a great job portraying just how much she went through, including the abuse, neglect, and how much she was used by the movie industry, especially at a time when the casting couch was something more people accepted and tolerated, perhaps even expected.

There are few soft spots in this production, and I think while some people found the sexual abuse or sexploitation was overdone and unnecessary, I personally didn't quite enjoy it because it lacked too many details of how she got her discovery and rise to fame, and about her transformation. It seems to start with her already being "made" to some extent.

It wasn't that I found it unsettling, but rather, I found the cinematography style to be unoriginal and I found the production boring and not what it marketed itself to be.

I heard it was misogynist from people I usually agree with.
