Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

Larry Hagman was very funny and even likable as J.R. Ewing, but Joan Collins as Alexis Colby Carrington takes the cake.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time serials?…

'Falcon Crest' and 'Dallas'. I DIDN'T watch the other ones. Btw, night time soaps are called serials.

"THAT'S SOME BAD SHIT, HARRY!".

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?…

I know the word "serial", but I think "nighttime soap opera" is clearer, because you know there are daytime "serials" as well.

"My life is over. I might as well dance with Johnny Slash!"

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time serials?…

No, the night time ones are called serials (once-a-week) and the day time ones (five-times-a-week) are called soap operas.

"THAT'S SOME BAD SHIT, HARRY!".

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?…

Some people may refer to "Dynasty" as a serial (though I would think they are in the minority as "serial" is a bit archaic), but many people call it a soap opera as well.

More importantly, people are going to know what I mean when I say "soap opera", so I don't know why you would have a problem with me or anybody else calling "Dynasty" or "Dallas" a soap opera. Your insistence on saying that "serial" is correct and "soap opera" isn't is not only wrong, but also seems a bit precious. Clarity of communication is the most important thing here.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dynasty is an American prime time television soap opera that aired on ABC from January 12, 1981, to May 11, 1989.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time serials?…

I call the night time ones serials because that's what the networks and the shows themselves refer themselves as. The networks and shows DON'T refer to them as soap operas. That's RESERVED for the daytime ones.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time serials?…

You remind me of someone who would correct a customer for ordering a large mocha latte at a coffeshop-

"Large is incorrect! The correct word is venti!"

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time serials?…

, I'm a tea drinker (both hot and iced, but I PREFER hot), NOT a coffee drinker. Hot tea IS my VERY-FAVORITE drink. One 12-ounce cup of tea consists of the following teas, sweetener and half & half:

and OCCASIONALLY with…

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time serials?…

Looks delicious, I love hot tea, but iced tea is delicious too

I drink black tea, not into green tea

I mix black tea and green tea. Antioxidants.

Yes, I love the antioxidant aspect of tea. Berries too

Dallas. It was Must See TV every Friday night. We didn't go out until we had watched it and then, we all talked about it throughout the week.

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

"Dallas" was fun. Larry Hagman was born to play JR Ewing.

I also liked Sue Ellen and Bobby. Pam was dull.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

JR was a guy you loved to hate.

The show also had one of the best and most famous cliffhangers ever.
That one summer in the early 80s, we all wore Tee Shirts that said, I Shot JR.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

Is that your husband Miss Margo?

I never watched these series unless at a friends place and never paid much attention, or by the time my father bought a t.v. in the early 80's, Falcon Crest had just started airing. I wasn't interested in watching it or the others.

I do recall walking past the shops on my way to school and seeing the entertainment magazines hyping up the "Who shot JR?" thing. I feel like I'm missing out on something now.

You're not missing out on much unless you're a soap opera fan

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

I was more a movie fan and championed cinemas. Was never a big fan of many t.v. series or soaps. These were pop culture though and many had fun watching them. I would single out a couple and stick to them.

If you get IMDb TV, the streaming channel, you can watch watch the whole series free. That channel has loads of good shows. You should check it out! 😊👍

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

Thanks for the tip off.

TV series can take up a lot of time to watch. When I do watch the newer ones, I like to binge watch them over a few days. I may have to wait until retired, which will be some time off yet.

Dallas/Dynasty were such sensational t.v. events in many lives in that awesome era I live through as a kid.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

I remember "Who Shot JR?" like it was yesterday! Fun times!

The Enquirer even took a poll.

Sue Ellen got the highest number of votes. She was probably the one who had the best reason to want to kill him.

Her slimy sister, Kristen, got the second highest number of votes. And she turned out ot be guilty.

"My life is over. I might as well dance with Johnny Slash!"

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

I confess that I never thought of Kristen. Everyone had reason to want him dead, so there were so many to choose from!

It certainly was the subject for debate all that summer. I remember there being bar bets. The stakes were high. 😬

It really drove all of us crazy when the new season started with him in the hospital, and they didn't reveal who shot him until about the third episode in!

I liked Mary Kay Place.

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

I don't remember if that was an actual plot point, but Louise Lasser sure played her as if she were strung out on something. Maybe it wasn't acting. . . .

Re: What was your favorite of the night-time soaps?

As I recall reading a while back, it wasn't all acting.
