Nichelle had dementia, so her death ended the sadness for her kith and kin. That's the way it was with my mother who had progressively worse dementia for the last seven years of her life. When she finally passed, we had all been saddened out.

Too bad she couldn't hang around for a few more years so her pathetic "fans" could feel better about themselves, somehow, and not have to feel sad, at her and her families expense. Maybe they could have just propped her up like they did Betty White, ala Weekend at Bernies, so her fans could hold on a little longer and keep ignoring her.

I use the term fans loosely, since I never saw any of them posting about their love for her before she died.

She was going on 90yrs old. Its not that sad for a human being to live to that ripe old age.

I'm not sad that she "lived to be a ripe old age." I'm sad that she has passed away. Those are two very different things.

Just because she was 89 when she passed, that doesn't somehow make her death any less significant. What, do you stop caring about, or being interested in, people, after they get to "a certain age," making them disposable or dispensable?

Everyone passes away and passing away at 90 is not sad like passing away at around half that age or earlier for example and it depends who it is.

What, do you stop caring about, or being interested in, people, after they get to "a certain age," making them disposable or dispensable?

What is there to care about though, when one doesn't know the person? The reality is, we are ALL disposable and dispensable and that is a part of life. Nothing can stop or control this.

Lives we are connected with on personal level can affect us upon passing, but you are not sad grieving over every person that passes away are you? If you are, that is not an emotionally healthy way to live.

It's how they played a part in your life in some way…even if was minor, you still feel something when they pass on.

People will be sad when Clint Eastwood, William Shatner, Gene Hackman, Barbara Eden and Angie Dickinson die as well…and they are all older than Nichelle.

They are still the people you remember them as, no matter their age.

Angela Lansbury is 96 and still around.

People were sad when Betty White passed away at the end of last year.

That still doesn't define sad and the form of sadness.

To be sad over someone's passing that is only viewed from afar and on an abstract level, like a celebrity, is not sincere/genuine sadness. This is just self-absorption and even distraction from the real issue about what death means.

Nicols meant a lot to those that enjoyed her in Star Trek and I liked watching her and bless her for what she gave in this respect. I am not going to be sad about it though. The circumstances don't dictate as such to me.

Her close family members and friends will be "authentic" sad as they knew her for who she really was. It doesn't change the FACT that she was old and passed away, which is an expectation regarding living that has to be accepted.

She had a long and fulfilling life and will never be forgotten as Uhura.

She was *great* as Lt. Uhura in Star Trek, but I honestly don't remember seeing her doing anything else after that series ended.

She starred in the J. Neil Schulman masterpiece, Lady Magdalene's.
