What instrument is this in The Mummy (1999) OST?

"Dun Dun DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN!" The one mixed in with the shaking hand percussion instrument or whatever. I've heard it in Mulan, Executive Decision and Small Soldiers as well.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, this is the same sounding instrument in Executive Decision - https://youtu.be/FaovwDqKC6E?t=1m10s

Thanks.

Goldsmith!

Sounds like snare drum to me.

The shaking instrument, a tomborine. The instruments in unison were primary a snare drum and a timpani.

In ED, a snare drum again.

Goldsmith not only liked to use a snare drum that sounded deep and powerful, like in "Air Force One", he'd also do what other talented composers would do: have tow or more people playing the same snare drum drum taps/rolls, to more oomph and fuller sound.

IF you go pick up a snare drum from your local music store, it'll probably sound like a whimpy emo thing. He probably had a certain kind, or certain players he used who had their own.
