An Ohio man was arrested Tuesday for raping a 10-year-old girl who became a central figure in the debate over abortion rights after she reportedly traveled to Indiana to have an abortion when Ohio outlawed the procedure last month.

Arrest records and court records viewed by The Daily Beast confirm that Gerson Fuentes, 27, was arrested Tuesday in Franklin County on a felony charge of raping a person under 13. The Columbus Dispatch, who first reported on his arrest, attended Fuentes’ arraignment in Columbus on Wednesday.

The unidentified girl became national news when a doctor’s allegation that she traveled from her home in Columbus to Indianapolis for an abortion began to spread in the wake of the the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Her home state had a trigger law that immediately made abortions in the state illegal, while abortions remain legal in Indiana.

Columbus police detectives testified in court Wednesday that the abortion did take place out of state, the Dispatch reported. Court records show Fuentes is being held on a bond of $2 million. The Dispatch reported that a judge said the 27-year-old is considered a flight risk and, given the brutality of the crime, a high bail was necessary to protect the child involved.

Citing detectives, the newspaper reported that police were first made aware of the girl’s pregnancy through a referral filed with the local child services’ branch by her mother on June 22. Eight days later, the girl reportedly received a medical abortion in Indianapolis. Court records say the rape occurred on May 12.

If it's to save her life then yes there are some exceptions but other than that she can always give up the baby for adoption.

Yes I agree killing animals is murder but it is murder out of necessity as opposed to murdering out of malice.

And as disgusting as it sounds, she is not even the youngest female to give birth. All she has to do is give it up for adoption and move on with her life. We all had fucked up shit happen to us but everybody wants to cry "woe is me" all the time and I doubt any of you even care about the girl getting raped you guys are just exploiting this case to push your pro abortion agenda.

Study after study shows that the plant based vegan diet is the best one for humans while animal based protein ones are not meant for us to eat.
Those studies also point to a meat/animal based diet being the number one cause of heart disease and cancer.
And with all the plant based foods and vegan options we now have it shows that murdering for meat is unneeded more than it has ever been before.

We don't know the whole story and they may have given the girl a choice.
Or else they could have seen how tough a pregnancy and child birth could have been on her small body.
Whichever it is, getting the abortion was the right thing to do.

It's not just a "small opening" either, carrying a baby to term when she's 10 years old (a child) would be dangerous for her body. Not to mention traumatizing.

There's really no defensible position here, your argument is that a child who was raped should risk her life carrying and delivering the baby and just "move on with her life." Giving birth isn't like having a splinter removed.
