I agree. Caan started out well. His rise wasn't quick, but when he got there he showed
that he had big star charisma. For some reason he didn't stay at the top for long. Bad judgment maybe, yet he was a player for a long while. I just saw him in an episode of Combat!, and recognized him immediately. He played a Kraut, and he owned it.

I believe 'Thief' was his last excellent acting performance.

name an english actor who has done anything like Caan too. he spent 9 years on the pro rodeo circuit. always hear about great english actors when they've never lived any life but acting for the most part. i can think of 3 actors off the top of my head who were rodeo riders before acting. Caan, Wilford Brimley, Slim Pickens.

You don't look at what he's doing NOW - you look at what he did before: Thief, Misery... amongst others.
Besides, when has the quality of a movie said anything about a person's acting skill?! Some excellent actors have appeared in some dodgy movies... Doesn't mean they didn't do a great job IN them!

Look, he was a wooden mother fucker.
He's dead now, we shouldn't talk about him.
But his blandness was reminiscent of some B actor who acted the same every role. A shoe horn has more talent.

He was great in "Thief" and "Misery" and solid in pretty everything else I saw him in. His small role in "Dogville" was better than almost anyone else's in this movie. Although I'm aware he's had his fair share of doing awful pictures.

The movie's may not have been great, but what Caan did, he made it look all so easy. I bet it wasn't.

He had a fun loving comic side to him. Perfectly cast in Elf.

He was more than competent. He had a lot of charisma and seemed likable. Plus, he was quite sexy in "The Godfather" and some others. So, it's not at all hard to understand why he did well for himself in Hollywood.
