You'll struggle to make a living wage anywhere on this planet if you don't have something extra to offer. If all you can offer is the same as anybody else, you'll get minimum wage.
My advice to any young person is get trained in something. Preferably something you not only enjoy, but are also good at. Just because you enjoy something, doesn't mean you'll be any good at it. And being good at it won't get you very far if you don't enjoy it.
