Re: Finale: Top 10 Bands/ Singers of the Rock Genre
Thanks, nice choice, not sticking to more well-known 'mainstream' metal bands.
Hope Sonata Arctica relieves those lonely nights. :-)

If you were destined to be stranded on a desert island alone, which 10 bands'/ singers' complete discographies would you like to have for companionship? - izzy520i
That would be just the bands/singers I have on my MP3 player I guess:
THE BACK HORN
Loudness
Dragon Force
ONE OK ROCK
CNBLUE
Nightwish
Within Temptation
Nicholas Tse
Beyond
Linkin Park
As I found your question interesting I created a thread with your question at IMDF

each brain develops its own preferences
Re: Finale: Top 10 Bands/ Singers of the Rock Genre
Thanks for participating.
I feel guilty now since Loudness was one of the bands I was contemplating and decided to go for others. Big fan.
BTW- Heavy Chains and Let It Go are my favourite classic 80s rock numbers.
Thanks for the update, please do, hope it gets good feedback.

Question-
If you were destined to be stranded on a desert island alone, which 10 bands'/ singers' complete discographies would you like to have for companionship?
I don't own the complete discography of any of these artists (except where noted). It's hard for long running bands to be consistently successful, most have at least one misstep along their careers.
That said, here are my current top ten artists. The number in parentheses after each band is how many of their albums are in my CD collection.
alpha128:
Judas Priest (11) - The first heavy metal band to earn the title of "my favorite band". Priest has been highly influential to heavy metal music in general and me personally. I used sing lead vocals in a band, and I learned how to do that by singing along to Priest in my car. I've seen Priest live twice, once with Rob Halford and once with Tim 'Ripper' Owens.
Manowar (9) - As they themselves will tell you, "Other bands play, Manowar kill". I got to see them kill an incredibly memorable New Year's Eve show. Not only did they blow the fuses in the club, they had fully nude dancing girls on stage with the band! Afterward, I got (and still have) a beat up drum stick with the late Scott Columbus' blood on it. Cloning scientists interested in recreating one of the greatest drummers of all time can send me a private message.
Accept (5) - Another influential band that I got to see live twice during the Udo years. The first time was in a very small club and I was really close to the band.
Dio (5) - One of the greatest singers of all time and sorely missed. I got to see Dio twice on the 2000 Magica tour.
Iron Maiden (5) - Like Priest, Maiden has been highly influential to heavy metal music. I've seen Maiden live twice, decades apart, and they didn't lose any of their magic in the interim.
Slayer (5) - The second heavy metal band to earn the title of "my favorite band" after I decided to go in a heavier/harder/faster direction. Never got to see them live unfortunately.
Grim Reaper (4) - In this case I do own every album in their discography. Their long awaited comeback album "Walking in the Shadows" was my album of the year for 2016.
Primal Fear (7) - February 6th, 2008, a date that will forever live in my personal history. It was the date that I discovered '80s Metal from the 21st Century (80sM2K) in general, and Primal Fear in particular. Here's a band that picked up the influences of Judas Priest and Accept and carried them into the new millennium, while adding their own contribution. I saw them live once. The show was not well attended and the fans formed a receiving line while the band exited the club. I got to shake singer Ralf Scheepers' hand!
Iron Savior (4) - I discovered this 80sM2K band about the same time as Primal Fear. And like that band, they combine Priest-like guitar riffs and melody with Slayer-like speed. Iron Savior also adds Queen-like multi-layered vocals into the mix. I recently bought their 2016 release "Titancraft".
Mystic Prophecy (3) - I discovered this 80sM2K band not long after the two above. As with Grim Reaper and Iron Savior, I bought Mystic Prophecy's 2016 release "War Brigade". The first song from that album had me saying, "That's good." The second had me saying "That's clever." The third song had me banging my head so hard I practically fell out of my chair.

As I found your question interesting I created a thread with your question at IMDF - elanor

I found the question interesting as well, so I created a thread with Izzy's question at IMDB v2.0:

Re: Finale: Top 10 Bands/ Singers of the Rock Genre
Thanks for participating Alpha. Somehow I could more or less predict you would have gone for Priest, Accept, Dio and Primal Fear if you had participated. :-)
I was torn with Dio, but I can't imagine being stranded on an island with music, and not have Stargazer, Light In The Black, Kill the King, Temple of the King etc to keep me company, so had to be Rainbow for me in spite of only 3 albums with Dio on vocals.
Accept are brilliant, but I've only listened to their greatest hits album (as I mentioned previously). Perhaps I should have gone for them to listen to their full discography during my island stay.
Appreciate and am honoured by the invite.
Please do so, I thought it is a befitting 'finale'. Hope it gets a lot of feedback. :-)

I am predictable if you know me.

For me it was an easy decision since I own only one Rainbow album, "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll".
Accept are brilliant, but I've only listened to their greatest hits album (as I mentioned previously). Perhaps I should have gone for them to listen to their full discography during my island stay. - izzy520i
For future reference, here is how I would rank the Accept albums I own: (#1 = The Best):
1. Restless and Wild
2. Objection Overruled
3. Balls to the Wall
4. Russian Roulette
5. Metal Heart
But I consider them all good enough to first buy on vinyl and then rebuy on CD.
Appreciate and am honoured by the invite (to IMDB v2.0). Hope (my question) gets a lot of feedback (there). :-) - izzy520i
It did; 133 views and 8 replies: http://imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/1617/top-10-bands-singers. I know that Elanor prefers alternative site IMDF (where I'm also a member), but this illustrates why I prefer IMDB v2.0 - it has the members and the traffic. IMDF is a nice site, but her comparable thread there has only 15 views and no replies.

Hope you can participate hairmetalmusic. Would like to see your list to see if GnR would be there.
Re: Finale: Top 10 Bands/ Singers of the Rock Genre
Thanks for participating TheHestinator. Good choice of more 'mainstream' rock & metal.
Again, the Dio effect comes in. As per my reply to alpha128 I had to choose Rainbow over Dio for the Dio-Rainbow albums.

Re: Finale: Top 10 Bands/ Singers of the Rock Genre
Judas Priest a large back catalogue spanning decades.
KISS The first rock band I listened to. Also a large collection to choose from.
Metallica Although I would only listen to the albums that preceded Load.
Ghost My current favourite band.
Opeth I would definitely need some progressive death metal for dark reflective moments.
Deep Purple Classic '70s rock for when I want something old school.
Nightwish Lots of albums to choose from.
Poison Some trashy glam hair rock to party to.
Helloween If only for The Keeper of the Seven Keys
Behemoth Turn it up loud and maybe someone will hear it and rescue me.

Thanks for participating BA_Harrison. Like your choice.
Metallica- ditto, although perhaps with that alone time I can use to try to appreciate the post Black Album albums more.
Helloween- Likewise, Rainbow for me was chosen more for the Dio years.
Behemoth- Very good point. :-)

Question-

izzy520i:
Metallica
Megadeth
The Black Crowes
Rush
Rainbow
Iron Maiden
The Scorpions
Pearl Jam
R.E.M.
Linkin Park
I've purposely selected bands with a few albums up their sleeves.
Metallica- need that adrenalin rush once in a while when I'm bored eating coconuts and catching fish.
Megadeth- as per Metallica.
The Black Crowes- must be good to listen to during those lonely nights
Rush- I've always wanted to have a proper listen to their long masterpieces, but never have the time to do so.
Rainbow- though not many albums, vast change over the years, feels like listening to different bands. Plus there's Dio and Graham Bonnet.
Iron Maiden- long discography, with good songs.
Scorpions- as per Iron Maiden.
Pearl Jam- as per Iron Maiden.
R.E.M.- as per Iron Maiden. Borders on rock though.
Linkin Park- as per Iron Maiden, plus makes me feel a bit young(ish?)
