Edward Norton : Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

Norton had his chance and blew it. He is the Gen Y Mickey Rourke, waiting around for another chance when Matt Damon puts him in another movie in 2024.

Re: Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

Except that he was in two of the best reviewed films of the year and is about to be up for another Oscar.

Bonehead.

I don't remember seeing Matt Damon in Primal Fear or American History X. I guess Norton don't need that whiner to get nominated.

Nah. Matt Damon was busy during that time (more than 15 years ago, btw) winning an Academy Award for 'Good Will Hunting.'

Yeah, all those failed screenplays that Norton failed to win Oscars forboneheadx2.

Norton's no Steven Seagal when it comes to screenwriting, although their egos are comparable and neither have been relevant since the '90s. Matt Damon, meanwhile, was nominated for 'Best Actor' for the same Academy Award winning screenplay that won 'Best Picture'. boneheadindeed!

Re: Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

A. Revising a script is hardly the same thing as developing a script from the ground up.

B. Good Will Hunting did not win Best Picture.

C. You keep bringing up a movie from nearly 20 years ago to prescribe relevance to Damon, when in reality his career has been on the skids for some time now. Hereafter, Contagion, Elysium, The Monuments Menall barrels of suckage. Norton, meanwhile, has seen a significant rise in stock lately with Moonrise Kingdom and an awesome 2014 (which should result in two BP nominees and a guaranteed BSA nomination, where he's perceived as a strong runner-up.) It will only get better if/when Motherless Brooklyn finally comes to fruition.

E. Eff you.

F. All of the above

You mad, bro?

Re: Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

You projectin', bro?

Don't worry, The Martian is sure to put Damon back up on the scoreboardfrom the ever-reliable Ridley Scott, director of such recent successes as Robin Hood, The Counselor and Exodus LOL.

Who would you rather have in your movie? A reliable A-list Academy-Award winning movie star that does blockbusters and indie labors of love? Or a churlish, unreliable diva that takes the paycheck but doesn't give the respect to the work, his colleagues, or the audience (which has rightly forgotten him and the squandered potential he displayed two decades agomuch like Mickey Rourke did.)

btw, the reason I keep bringing up a '20 year-old movie' Good Will Hunting (1997) is because you used Primal Fear (1996) and American History X (1998) as a demonstration of Edward Norton's most relevant accomplishment. '96, '97, '98HTH, bro.

Re: Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

As I've demonstrated numerous times, Damon is far from reliable these days and Norton is far more critically successful.

And I never once used Primal Fear and American History X in my evisceration of your bitchassfollow this thread's progression more closely, toolio, where I've referred to Norton's most recent accomplishments.

Can you snapchat yourself bawling when Norton is nominated for Birdman?

3x Oscar nominee Edward Norton!

Re: Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

Just super that Norton got his third nom (first in 16 years, since the last century!), so he can join Matt Damon in the '3 Noms' club. This 'arthouse' thing seems to be Norton's paycheck these days, along with his Verizon commercials. AMAZING how friendly and positive he is in promoting this low-budget arthouse film, playing a part where he is making fun of himself. And being third-billed in a movie where the star is Michael Keaton is not bad for this stage in Norton's career (speaking of has-beens, whatever happened to top-billed Keaton?) Nice to see Norton has a sense of humor about himself now, at almost 50 years old he is swimming through the ashes of the bridges he has burned. Cheering for him to win, so he is relevant in the 21st century!

Re: Ed Norton = Gen Y Mickey Rourke

Oh yeah, Michael Keatonthe guy slated to win the Best Actor Oscar this year. How irrelevant!

What are your thoughts on two of Norton's films tying for most Oscar nominations apiece this year?

Curious minds want to know!

What does Matt Damon have to do with anything??? There are dozens of A-list actors you know
And he's Gen X by the way

And he's2000 more like the Gen X De Niro IMHO.
