Its an over-rated Scorsese fanboy favorite only. They really need to go and watch his more intimate and charming films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and After Hours.

Its because these fanboys are boring, that they won't watch some of Scorsese's quieter less obnoxious films. They will dismiss them in fact, which says more about them.

I remember After Hours. It was quirky and dark. I had to Google to make sure that I had seen it. At the time, I was a fan of Griffin Dunn. But that movie isn't a cult hit.

It would be a minor cult interest for those that don't really care for in your face Scorsese.

I like it better than King Of Comedy, which is ok, but Bernhard is just weird and its like Scorsese just let her improve all over the place without reining her in.

Almost every one. Why? You don't like, don't fucking watch. Why does the man have to change up his formula for you? What is it about his directing you don't like? I'm not talking subject matter. I mean technique, essence.

I did not tell you he changed formula. What I meant was style. My bad. Anyway, you can't even express just what exactly about Scorsese's style is underappreciated.


For instance, I liked Shutter Island. Just not as much as I enjoyed Goodfellows, Casino and The Irishman.

Scorsese has made many different films thematically, my point was I tend to gravitate towards his more quieter films. His gangster ones like Gangs Of New York, Casino and The Departed I find ott and superficial.

I like The Age Of Innocence, although I found it lacked a bit of emotional connection towards the characters compared to what James Ivory has delivered us in period dramas.

I agree. His films about organized crime and the mafia are more character driven films. The characters propel the plot.

His other films, are more abstract. I don't feel a connection to the film nor its characters. Like Taxi Driver. And yeah I saw The Age of Innocence. It was critically acclaimed. Yeah technically great of course. I just wasn't feeling it. I liked the actors also.

That's how I feel about this subject. I never claimed to be expert so you can get off phase 2 now.

Goodfellas had characters I couldn't relate too, but they were compelling enough to be interesting, as was Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver. That one though is rightly a classic, with its stylish and gritty depiction of its time and place.

I know you've never been an expert, although you don't like to be contradicted when more expert opinions put you in your place.

^This. Mean Streets is a better gangster film from Scorsese.

I have yet to see Mean Streets, but have heard many good things about it. @I love hutch adores it.

Yes, Mean Streets is an excellent film. Also, I think it is Robert De Niro's best performance.
