The pronoun of "we" she often uses gives the twerp away, not to mention the style of avatar.

One of my fav low budget 80'exploitation. This film had a lot of heart too and there is not a dull moment.

Great supporting cast and, yes, not a dull moment. I love the 80s Hollywood Boulevard atmosphere. And the makeshift family was touching.

Despite its delicate and taboo subject matter, it is handled with skill, care and aesthetic beauty. In the context of the film's milieu, it doesn't exploit its subject matter and it doesn't set out to deliberately offend/shock.
It is questionable that Shield's mother allowed her to do the nude scenes, but that seems negligible within context too.
