IMDB In The News

Re: IMDB In The News

Here's another one

this portion is instructive:

It's easy to look at IMDb's statement and conclude that the message boards are shutting down because the trolls won. That may be part of it, but a big part of it too is the reality of how people interact nowadays online. Message boards are simply not as important as they once were, not with all the social media options out there, and comment sections and the like.

and very unfortunate. From what I've seen of Facebook and (especially) Twitter, real conversations and intelligent discussions are far from the norm and very difficult to have in anything like what can be had here. Making 10-word comments and sharing pictures and videos and funny cat stuff isn't the same as what we have here - even when what's here is often not as good as it could be.

I guess if you can't say everything you want to as a meme, IMDb is saying to go *beep* yourself.

Here's to the fools who dream

Re: IMDB In The News

Indeed.

I wish they would at least keep the comment boards for the movies. Many times I had a question or observation after a recent viewing and enjoyed going to that particular movie's message board for interaction.

I told you a million times not to talk to me when I'm doing my lashes!

Re: IMDB In The News

It is very bizarre how they kept adding boards when they had to have the option to delete them all on the boards.. They were expanding, not culling.

Half the boards had no reason for even existing, i.e., Food and Drink, Watercooler, Soapbox, Politics, etc.

Re: IMDB In The News

Can't comprehend. You would think streamlining would help but we are talking censorship, cowardice and corporate butt-kissing. Nothing to do with the hoi poloi.

Two paragraphs in particular:

Unfortunately, these days the number of people using the boards is dwindling. And in many cases the discussions going on there are evidently not living up to basic standards of civility. Where does that leave the vaunted institution of IMDb's message boards?

Was a time when IMDb's message boards were very lively indeed, but anyone who's visited in recent years has seen a steep decline in quantity and quality of discussion.
