It isn't just feminists who hate "penis envy". Anyone who understands how the scientific method is supposed to work when modeling the human mind is going to hate "penis envy".
Freud is held in disrepute by the scientific community because these kinds of ideas are unverifiable bullshit and not science, end of story. Critiques of Freud by my favorite philosophers and scientists abound, and none of them ever involved feminism.
Not that it would be wrong to critique his nonsense from a feminist perspective, but Jesus, he's got so many things wrong on other grounds that it would be like handing out a jaywalking ticket to someone you just saw commit murder.

I might have had something close to an Oedipus Complex when I was a toddler. Growing up, I was extremely close with my mother, and though I couldn't comprehend it at the time, I remember sensing that my father seemed to resent me because my mother preferred my company to his.
I am, however, afflicted with a moderate case of castration anxiety!

I always felt that the driving force behind Satanism was perversity. And I don't think that perversity in itself is even the worst thing in the world.
The thing that frightens me the most about Satanists is that they seem to take themselves very seriously.

Re: What I don't understand about theists…
Luke 10:18 I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. That's Satanic Romanticism.
Most people think devil worship is about sacrificing chickens and masturbating with an upside down crucifix (whatever that means).
It really isn't. I read Aleister Crowley. To me Satanism was about rebellion against the universal order and restoring the pagan gods.
I know you grew up in a fundamentalist Christian home. I was baptized Greek Orthodox. But my family was very secular. Religion was never stressed but my parents believed in god.
My older sister married a Mormon and hell broke loose. I was a profligate gay child but I converted to Mormonism under the influence of my charismatic brother-in-law. Mormonism is actually a kewl religion once you get past the hype. It teaches you'll be a god one day and you'll create your own worlds and planets.
Still, I could not reconcile my homosexuality with Jesus. Mormonism teaches that Satan is Christ's brother. But he was the rebellious brother who turned against God the Father. In Mormonism, God the Father and Christ are two completely different entities.
So I left the Mormon Church and developed my own syncretic and dualistic religion. I could have started a cult but then I discovered Karl Marx and UCLA's School of Business.

No, I never would have said anything remotely close to that.
My father is an avowed atheist and I don't know what my mother was. An uncharitable Methodist, I suppose.
Organized religion holds little appeal for me. The exception being certain Native American beliefs, which seem pure and true and authentically experienced and felt. But NA religions seem more organic than organized, anyway.

It is tragic what happened to their cultures and if only white colonialism came later, then it may have perhaps been more respected, revered and preserved more soundly.

Well if Christianity is true I still believe the Mormons have it right. Their theology is flawless.
My sister is Mormon and my nephew is gay. He was excommunicated from the church when they found out.
I've never seen Latter Days. I think the blond Mormon kid is cuter than the guy who seduced him.

We know its a true religion founded on belief and institution created within the human realm, but that's as far as it goes on surface level. There is NO belief beyond what the deluded mind creates and thinks of as real.
Yes, the Mormon blonde dude is way cute, over the gay dude. That's what I meant.

Re: What I don't understand about theists…
We know nothing in regards to the origin of our existence with certainty.
I'm an atheist. The term "agnostic" is wishy washy.
But if Christianity is true, meaning that Christ died and was resurrected for our sins, then the Mormon Church has divine revelation. No other Christian sect presents the theology as a seamless whole like the LDS.

Why does there have to be an origin for existence? Within the infinite, there is no starting or end point.
There is no seamless whole, when there is separation away from divinity, like in LDS and other forms of Christian belief. There is also NO form of Christianity, beyond what the delusion of mind creates.

Then you can't be a genuine atheist, because you claim to admire much about religions and your statement here even proves it, as you believe in Christ being here. Who/what was Christ, beyond the glorification of religion?
An atheist, rejects the religious notion of creator God only. In order to reject God, one has to have notion of it first to dismiss it. It all begins with God for either theist or atheist, yet it is not "separate" God.
Only a fool wouldn't connect to the complete whole of the universe as its experienced and that the creator being is encompassed within everything in "entirety". It would be limiting and delusional not too.

Re: What I don't understand about theists…
Trust me. I'm an atheist. I don't believe anything which cannot be verified by science.
That doesn't mean there can't be truth's I don't know about.
You have as much faith as any Christian if you think you know anything about existence with complete certainty.

Re: What I don't understand about theists…
You can tend to meander regarding religion and its beliefs, within what you idendify as, yet this is also perhaps just born of fascination and interest.
In a technical sense I am atheist, in that I don't believe in religious creator God, yet don't dismiss God out of religious context. A true atheist would disregard any notion of 'God', as that term brings up notions of deluded institutional belief.
The only truth one needs to be aware of, is consciousness awareness and that is what you already have. That can't be denied. This comes first before anything else and is all connected.
Science largely thinks in matter first, which is understandable, and yet it can constantly hits walls with its bricks of logic. Its seeking knowing for intellect reasons born out of ego notions of self.
Its also looking for points of measures within how everything works and can dismiss the whole essence of conscious being not being brain only. Heck they even try to measure time. Mind works within everything. Until that is acknowledged, truth will flounder.

Re: What I don't understand about theists…
I'm in no position to say anything negative about science, EXCEPT that its power pales in comparison to the power of the imagination.
The strength of a person's religious beliefs is based in faith. Science is the realm that demands evidence, proof. Faith loses every bit of its worth if it needs "proof". I would think that to be self-evident.

I'm merely saying that I can be atheist, be 100% sure there is no theistic god, and still realize that I am a mere man and don't know everything.
There might be things out there I don't know exist. That doesn't make me an agnostic. It just means I'm an atheist based on what I know.

If I believe in anything wholeheartedly, it is my dreams. If surrealism could be transformed into a religion, then that would be the one for me. But then I really don't need religion.
There's a quote in the 1980 movie "Resurrection" with Ellen Burstyn where she says "God is love. That's all." I like that so much. I mean, why does it have to be more complicated or complex than that?
I also find synchronicity to be this extraordinarily powerful thing. A powers that defies reason. Whenever i experience a bit of synchronicity, my immediate interpretation is that I am exactly where I should be in that moment in time.

Re: What I don't understand about theists…
I love hutch said... I understand. I just wanted to add my two cents worth! If god does exist I think he comprises both good and evil. But of course he is at the same time to use Nietzsche's terminology "beyond good and evil". When I was a believer my interpretation of the Christian god was that he was partially "evil". My proof of that was his condemnation of homosexuality.

When I was a believer my interpretation of the Christian god was that he was partially "evil". My proof of that was his condemnation of homosexuality.I know that "God is love" can seem very simplistic. And I do believe that for every benevolent force, there exists an opposite. It just has to be that way. A perfect analogy might be the color wheel (it's no coincidence that Millie Lammoreaux is obsessed with the colors yellow and purple, which are complimentary on the wheel.) And so if I believe in God, then I guess I have to believe in the devil. One reason why I kind of steer clear of "God" (or, more specifically, The Old Testament, is because it's so dark. And, of course, there IS a lot of depravity in this world.
So I don't know if god is love. There's too much necessary evil in his universe.

Toasty started talking metaphysical gobbledygook though. Lol.
As far as the movie quote goes, "God is love" really was more of a projection of that character's approach to life. Nice and simple. And while I'd like to think that I am a warm-hearted, forgiving person, I, too, have a dark side. I'm not sure, but I think it was Jung who talked about the shadow and how it could be extremely dangerous for us to disregard the shadow within our own psyche. I couldn't agree more. If you disregard it or are deluded to think that you are above and beyond having a dark side, then watch out! Because these are the people who can end up doing the most damage.
My primary association with surrealism is the director Luis Bunuel. He said something to the effect that if he had his druthers, he would like to spend 2 hours a day working and the remaining 22 hours dreaming. A surrealist after my own heart! The intensity and passion and warm connections I have experienced in some of my dreams far and away surpass anything I have ever felt in my waking state.
Toasty and I are usually on the same wavelength. I will have to go look up what the rascal has had to say as of late!

What I don't understand about theists…
You can defend yourself from a tyrannical government because governments are people, made up of flesh and blood, but there is no way to defend yourself from an all knowing, supernatural deity that rules the world. What are you going to do? Shoot the sky?
I would rather live in a world ruled by human tyrants and no God, than a world with a God and no tyrants. At least with the former there would be a fighting chance.
Just because I'm not on THEIR side, doesn't mean I'm on YOURS.
