Re: 60's westerns

I like Glenn Ford in different movie genres and yes he was great in all westerns but I also liked a lot the westerns he did in the 1950's like:
3:10 to Yuma
Jubal
The Fastest Gun Alive
The Violent Men

Re: 60's westerns

The 50s were his best decade. Favorite of his excellent Westerns -- THE SHEEPMAN (funny, romantic, dramatic, exciting).

Re: 60's westerns

My dad always thought he was the best cowboy.

Re: 60's westerns

And working cowboys were in agreement with your dad, charlie -- according to a survey done in the early 1960s.

Re: 60's westerns

I was just watching a couple of John Wayne movies on AMC and it reaffirmed what I always thought. There was something about John Wayne's version of a cowboy that just seemed inauthentic and showy. From the way he walked to the way he talked. Everything seemed over the top, his walk seemed very stiff and the way he shifted his hips was almost silly. Every time I think of John W's cowboy I imagine him in heavy leather chaps and a piece of grass in his mouth.

Glenn Ford on the other hand seemed easier to relate to as a cowboy. You can actually seem him on a ranch.

Re: 60's westerns

Glenn Ford's son, Peter, was on location during the filming of THE DAY OF THE EVIL GUN. Ford's co-star was Arthur Kennedy. Kennedy said to Peter "We're in hell."
