Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

"But as the sprawling investigation has unfolded, prosecutors have sometimes struggled to maintain a consistent narrative and had to walk back statements made in court hearings or in papers. It has created an opening for defense attorneys to try to sow doubt in the case.

“The government presented a theory (without evidence) that there was a weeks long plan to invade the Capitol,” an attorney for one of the Oath Keepers, Jessica Watkins, wrote in a recent court filing. “There was no such plan.”

In one case, prosecutors declared in court documents in January there was “strong evidence” the pro-Trump mob aimed to “capture and assassinate elected officials.” The Justice Department quickly clarified it had no such evidence, blaming it on a miscommunication between prosecutors.

After she was pressed by a judge in a recent hearing, Rakoczy conceded authorities “do not have at this point someone explicitly saying, ‘our plan is to force entry into the Capitol in order to stop the certification,’” but cautioned that the investigation is ongoing."

Have they figured out how the cop died yet?

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

The rumor is he ceased living.

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

It was a protest that got out of hand. Trying to frame people for a planned insurrection is simply politically motivated corruption.

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

It doesn't matter if it was an organized conspiracy to invade the Capitol and kill elected officials, because the end result is the same. Why did they come with zip ties? Why did they chant "hang Mike Pence"? Why did they beat police officers, resulting in the death of one? For some, killing was clearly the intent.

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

For some, killing was clearly the intent.

However, just like you, intent and acquisition don't line up regardless of the amount of effort put in

LOL. 🤡🌎

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

You don't bring zip ties if you want to kill somebody. Zip ties are for restraining people.

It wouldn't matter if somebody turned up with a tactical nuclear warhead and the detonation codes. That doesn't mean everyone there was ready for WWIII.

He didn't even bring zip ties, he brought his mother. He grabbed the zip ties from a table in a hallway.

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

I have no idea who brought what, I can just see that the accusations are politically motivated. The accusers are the same people who claimed that Donald Trump's use of the word fight was literal. These people aren't idiots, but they think you and I are.

Who is buying this nonsense? What do they think political and cultural subversion looks like?

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

It is the attackers themselves who have said they thought Trump wanted them to literally fight. Of course it is what Trump wanted. Unless you think Trump is so stupid that he didn't believe spending months making the false claim that the country was being stolen wouldn't lead to violence. He is the one who screamed fire in the crowded building. He is responsible.

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

Their perception of what Trump wanted is their problem.

I'm sure people have murdered people before because of something their TV told them.

What Trump said was broadcast around the world. I didn't think he was asking me to literally fight. He meant the kind of fight that Martin Luther King engaged in, or Nelson Mandela. Fight is a synonym for struggle, or persevere.

They didn't beat a police officer to death.
Investigators had struggled for weeks to build a federal murder case in Sicknick's death as they pored over video and photographs to try to determine the moment in which he suffered his fatal injuries. Investigators determined that initial reports suggesting Sicknick had been struck with a fire extinguisher weren't true.

Re: Prosecutors struggle with consistent story in Jan. 6 cases

I still can't believe that both the District Attorney of Washington D.C. and the U.S. Attorney General still have not charged Donald Trump for inciting that riot on January 6th.

He totally incited it and the proof is literally on camera.

I really wish more people would call them out for not charging him.
