Lisa Bonet : how could she be on the cosby show?

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Well,
She would be the first to say she is Black.
She definitely identifies as such.
She's Black to me! I love Lisa Bonet.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

WOW, it's amazing how dumb some people can be. My aunt is a light-skinned woman, in fact she is lisa's complexion and my grandma and grandpa are dark, not very dark, but dark. Her son is very dark and his father is a dark caramel complexion. Whoever said that she wasn't believable to be their daughter can't be black to say some ignorant *beep* like that because black families come in all colors. Some of my members of my family are so light that they could pass for white minus looking at the hair and some of my other family members are so dark that people ask them if they were born in Africa (kind of ignorant).

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

It's so ignorant when people assume that all Africans look a certain way. My family, we are Nigerian. My mom b68 's side of the family ranges from very light complexioned, to red complexioned, to brown complexioned. Most of my dad's side of the family is brown-skinned. This already trumps people's assumptions that all Africans are very dark-complexioned. My mom has very light brown eyes and me and one of my siblings do also and we are caramel complexioned. Some of my siblings are light and some brown skinned. One of my aunts and her husband are extremely light-skinned and all there kids are extremely light except for one child who is brown-complexioned. So it is very possible to have a family that ranges in skin complexion and features and also people need to really stop thinking all Africans look the same.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

I think this whole topic is absurd. Why should a person's skin color be an issue to ppl? And yes I totally agree not all africans or others races for that matter look th 2000 e same.

I am neither black nor white, to tell you the truth I dunno what to call myself.
I am from South America/West Indies (Indian decent) and ppl in my family range from very dark to very white skinned. My parents are an example. My dad is tan/light skinned my mom is very pale yellow skinned. I came out tan/light carmel colored. Some ppl think Im 'Arabic, Pakistani and/or even Latina. ANd we are neither. Most ppl have no clue what I am when they see me.
And I have an aunt who is light, her husband is totally dark and they have a daughter that came out very light.... Who cares?

I think this world has 'bigger fish to fry' than to worry about what ppl should or do look like.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Well Sandra was very light and I think she is half white too, but it doesn't matter. Point is that Lisa is still half black and sometimes you have to look passed those things. Lisa was a good actress and perfect for the part of Denise.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Sabrina Le Beauf, the actress that plays Sondra on the Cosby Show, is NOT half white. Both of her parents are black. The thing is most people who are not black do not understand the complexion situation in black families. Blacks range from the darkest black to the whitest white and every shade in between.

And one does not have to have a white parent to be a light or fair complected black person. These are the facts! Deal with it!

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Because she was drop dead beautiful. Any more reason neede da0 d?

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

it is possible for two dark black parents to produce a light skinned black just like its possible for two light skinned blacks to produce a dark skinned black...the light skin is the recessive gene but it still exists....so although the dark skin gene is dominant, it is still possible for them to produce a light skinned child if they carry the light skin recessive trait

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

I don’t think The Cosby Show cared how its actors looked, as long as they are some African heritage. I remember a guest on that show mentioning she is 1/3 African American, and that character wanted everybody to guess.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Yea, i think its just like with any show where the children look nothing like the parents, even when everyone is the same color, but you dont think about it cause its the show itself that matters.

"Baby's on fire...better throw her in the water" (Velvet Goldmine 1998)

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

i knew a girl with blonde, curly hair and blue eyes whose parents were both darker skinned african americans. i have cousins who range in complexion from being very dark and others so fair-skinned that white people think they are white even though they we are all african american. one of my lighter-skinned cousins went on a cruise by herself and some of the white passengers made very disparing remarks about people of color without realizing my cousin wasn't white like them. it's interesting what people really think about other ethnic groups and how they talk when they think they are only among "their own kind".

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

I suggest taking a biology class, anthropology course, or perhaps something in the cultural, sociology department at your nearby institutions ....

Having two parents, both "darker' skinned is easily normal and c ommon to produce an offspring that is not identical to the skin color, eye color, heighth, or much anything that is assumed to carry onto the child. You, would have to examine the genetic trail on both parents sides to find a common trace to naturally produce a child, even in the case of the fictional family on The Cosby Show. Did you really watch the show, if you are so concerned with the idea of a skin color issue .... the grandparents varied in color where the mother of Claire was very light skinned in comparison to the other members you are insinuating are "too dark to be considered African-American" which completely ludacris. The show examines an American family, not to fulfill stereotypes of what an African American family should look like. How unrealistic to question how Lisa Bonet could be considred a member of the family, or even Sondra's character. There should be no judgement passed on that matter. Are you next going to come up with the thought of how Mariyln could be related to the Munsters since she was of "normal" appearance compared to the ghoulish family of hers? Should George Lopez's kin on the show be as "dark" skinned as he is simply because he's 111c the father figure? How about his daughter for not being Latina, let alone Mexican. Darlene and her sister on Roseanne didn't have any similarities physically ... should they have not been portrayed as a family??? I could go on forever on this but I'll end it here.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

I suggest taking courses in film and screen/playwriting. Lisa Bonet is PLAYING A CHARACTER on a FICTIONAL show about an african american family. She is half african american, therefore she CAN identify as being black. She is not playing Lisa Bonet on the show, she is playing Denise Huxtable. Denise Huxtable is black, Lisa Bonet is black...what is the problem here?

INTERNET. SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Lots of brown/dark skinned parents have various "shaded" children. I have cousins who have the same brown skinned parents and one is white/literally paler than most white peopl and another child is very dark. Not unrealistic at all to have lisa bonet as the child of the huxtables.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Because she audition and had got the part.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

I don't understand what the OP is tryinng to say. Lisa Bonet is a very lightskinned person. As far as how it relates to the charecter, her light features mean nothing. For two reasons. 1. It is common for Black families to be multicolored. I've seen a "blue black" couple have botha a snow white kid and a dark colored kid. I don't think the Cosby show was intentionally trying to paint (no pun intended) that kind of picture. It just so happens that the actors came in various shades of black.

2. The show was intended to relate to all colors. The only difference is that it was done via a successful family. Whereas this was never the case in the past.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Its quite possible. If you remember Cliffs dad is very light and in most cases like eye color or hair color, skin color can skip generations or be distributed randomly amongst descendants.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

It doesn't make a lot of sense, genetically, but it's Hollywood.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

-_- Sandra was just as light, as well as cliff's father.
Also black people come in all different shades.

Both of my biological parents are brown skinned.
my moms mother is white (french & italian)
I came out fair skinned with green eyes.
genetics works in mysterious ways, especially in african americans.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Actually if you look at family, Bill's father was super light, I think he passed away a few months ago rip, so its very possible for black families to have very light kids with different texture of hair, like someone said before black families come in array of colors.

Plus its TV, what i used to think was stupid when that show sister sister who are also biracial, they are black and italian but in the beginning of the tv show theme they showed too darker black babies who obviously weren't mixed ,not just because of the complexion since that has nothing to do with being biracial but you can tell too because of the hair texture, anyways its obvious those two babies werent the twins in real life, hollywood is ignorant at times and I know they wouldn't have showed tia and tamera real baby pics because they looked like white babies just like my baby picture, sometimes you dont look as black in your baby pic until you get older and get some color lol

Re: how could
2000
she be on the cosby show?

you people have obviously never heard of dominant/recessive genes.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

What are you talking about? Sabrina LeBeauf and Felicia Ayers-Allen (Rashad) are both light-skinned; especially Sabrina.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

exactly that just proves my point. The mother was light skinned whereas Heathcliff was a more darker tone. Rudy and Theo and Vanessa obviously got theirs from Cliff whereas the other daughters got theirs from the mother.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

What? Rashad isn't light-skinned at all--she has beautiful dark chocolate skin--Bonet is the light-skinned one.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

Although Phylicia Rashad herself isn't that light - her sister Debbie Allen is pretty light, and their father and brother are quite light-skinned. So Phylicia likely has those "light-skinned" recessive genes within her - which means that one can silently assume that it is biologically possible that Clair Huxtable does, too.

As for Bill Cosby - I don't remember seeing photos of his siblings or parents/grandparents - but as people have said - the actor who played his father on the show is pretty light-skinned.

Also - if you look at Bill Cosby's real-life wife and their real-life children....some of their children are light, while others are darker like Rudy/Vanessa/Theo - so the skin-color variations of Bill Cosby's TV family reflect those of his real-life family.

When I was much younger, I was a bit confused about how much lighter-skinned Sondra and Denise were compared to the rest of the TV family - but I now have a more mature, informed perspective.

Uh, Felicia Rashad isn't even remotely light-skinned in the least---she's a beautiful dark-skinned woman.

Re: how could she be on the cosby show?

I don't care if Lisa Bone is white or black. She stinks and was a complete waste of time as an actress on the Cosby Show. And that horrid "Angel Heart" movie she made is even worse. Waste of time and money.
