Just look at him in "The Damned", "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis", "Dorian Gray", "Ludwig" and "Conversation Piece", where he gave us a full view of his naked arse. All right, he became an actor only because Visconti got infatuated with him and got him into his films. But Helmut showed he could actually act, and "Ludwig" was his greatest moment. Helmut has had an amazing life: not only he was Visconti's lover for ten years and made four films with him, but Helmut also worked with De Sica and with Losey, and alongside some of the greatest and most beautiful European actresses of the time: Silvana Mangano, Romy Schneider and Glenda Jackson. And at 72, far from being forgotten he is still kicking and working. Not one of the greatest European actors of all time, but surely the most iconic European actor of the 1970s.
I saw all of his major films several years ago, and I absolutely loved him in all. He is a wonderful actor and a beautiful man. I need to start watching the films over again!
He was so beautiful!
