Gwyneth Paltrow : Why do people think she's nasty?

Why do people think she's nasty?

I haven't read any quotes, or seen any interviews, or read her blogs, magazine interviews or anything. I have seen a lot of her movies but never really heard anything, except recently and was quite surprised.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

She's made a few ignorant comments in which she criticizes Americans and the American way of life (she seems to forget that she's American herself). She also gloats about how good her life is in England and how good the English are. She also posts a monthly letter in which she tries to teach people how to live (provided you earn millions of dollars LOL). I don't know she comes off as stuck up and spoiled and then she tries to put this image of her as a hard worker or something like that. She has no sense of reality. I mean, maybe she's not nasty, but at least ignorant and classist.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

She doesn't come off as stuck-up to me. She always seems down to Earth in her interviews. Nothing about her comes off as nasty or stuck-up. People just like to judge and misinterpret people they don't know.

Rap is not pop. If you call it that, then stop.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Hmm.

This thread sounds to me like a lot of US americans are still in great ignorance about the status of their country.

George W. Bush jr has pretty much destroyed the good name the USA had in the world.

I heard even Superman no longer defends the "American way of life".

Always listen to your own advice.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Yes, thank goodness Gwyneth has taken advantage of the fa 5b4 ct that America doesn't require an exit visa to leave. Now if only she'd complete her act of political integrity by renouncing her American citizenship, I could call her a person of her word (and one this country is well rid of).

Leftist clown. You thi 5b4 nk Democrats are any better?

"They sucked his brains out!"

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Yes, I do. While politics is rife with hypocrisy and cronyism, at least Dems back labor and the working class. After the much-beloved Reagan delivered deregulation and trickle-down economics, we've had an increasing disappearing middle-class. Reps only want to see rich people get richer.

I'm not a woman much less Deanna Durbin, but the old-time glam-shot appeals to me.

Which I why Donald Trump won Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, because Democrats did such a fine job showing their support for the beleaguered working class. Get a clue. Neither party cares about them. The only difference is their lip service.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

If people are judging all Americans based on one man then they are ignorant.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Speaking of which I am the same way. I also judge a group of people based on one person. For example. When I traveled with U.S. Airways one time, because one female passenger was not my type and she was also a fascist, I judge every female occupant on that airline, the exact same way.I think that all female passengers of U.S. Airways look like her and are fascists. Just from one person I judge every occupant of U.S. Airways. Maybe I am ignorant. But I also have autism/aspergers.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?/OMG

George W. Bush jr has pretty much destroyed the good name the USA had in the world.

You're comparing EVERY American with "W", and stereotyping an entire country because of an idiot President? Well then, shall we start with England's current PM, Cameron, and stereotype EVERY British citizen? Or better yet, let's move on to the ROYAL family, and all the awful blunders they've made, and lump every last British subject into their little web of affiliations, shall we?

I don’t like Gwyneth Paltrow, either but you’re an ass and an idiot!

Jack's not dead! Jack would never die without telling me, first!

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?/OMG

I don't see that Obama has done anything to restore America's prestige in the world. Except now the world knows for sure that we will throw our allies under the bus in pathetic attempts to please nations that have always hated us and always will.

When people stop moving to the U.S., then maybe we can talk about its "bad reputation" abroad.

You can't do one simple thing like, stick the the subject at hand? Remember, this thread is about Gwyneth, and why people think she's nasty!

Most europeans hated Bush and most europeans love Obama, many are baffled by how much power the media machine and republican party has.

The *beep* does Obama have to do with this conversation? I bet if I look at your history you'll be inserting him into every conversation possible.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

This thread sounds to me like a lot of US americans are still in great ignorance about the status of their country.

Did you read the substance of the comments or just use this as a platform to grandstand against the USA?

Just because some people don't like the tone of someone offering useless advice doesn't mean they're ignorant about the world as it is. I, for one, hold no illusions about the status of the USA or its image in the world at large, but neither do I like someone uselessly trashing the US way of life without offering some kind of useful, constructive critique, either. There's also the fact she's hypocritical about her attitudes since they are much those responsible for the US being less than it could be.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Yeah it's all Bush's fault. Thank God we got Obama. I mean this whole Obama-care thing has been a complete disaster, he vacationed more in his first 4 years than any President in history did....in their full time in office, and his programs (led by Obama-Care) have quadrupled the national debt. But hey keep on blaming Bush....

As for us Americans and our apparent ignorance. When Paltrow says that her being a mom and having to film 1 movie a year makes her life much easier than the life of a mom with a 9-5 job says it all. Poor ol' Gwen with her 10 million per movie fee and staff to take care of the kids. Super tough life she's got.

As for Superman. You heard? LOLOL from whom? One of your liberal buddies?

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Do all your facts come out of Sarah Palin's butt or just the ones in this comment?

Janet! Donkeys!

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

My statements were factual. Obama for 5 years played the "It's not my fault, it's Bush's fault" card. Still does at times. Isn't it time to buck up and be a man?

As for Obama-care....what part of it exactly would you call a success? Fees and premiums are massively higher t 5b4 han promised, the website for signing up has had problem after problem, and people have actually read up on the bill as a whole and are not signing up as Obama insisted they would.

So it's got zero to do with Palin. It's got to do with you having your news spoon fed to you from the Obama administration. Actually do your research and actually look into things....you know...from multiple sources. Dumbass.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

I know this is a while ago but jokes on you... First of all, I'm not a fan of Obama but he never shifted the blame on Bush. Anytime something did NOT get done, he always insisted that it was both sides that refused to compromise and agree with the opposing party (Rep vs Dem). Second, Obama never says "it's not my fault." He gives charismatic speeches that aren't 100% true... hello? Have you met a politician? Whether it was intentional or not, ALL politicians say something promising the people that they will get this and that done. That's what politicians do to gain people's trust and therefore votes. Many a times they might truly mean it but can never get it done due to checks n balances or being too busy or not enough money in the budget or a different crisis arises (2 major hurricanes, rising drug cartel wars, oil spill, financial crisis, developing Obama-Care which is currently working well for those who NEED it but couldn't get health care, changing immigration laws which I don't agree but he's doing something he thinks is right). That's just the top of my head.

As far as "getting something done" in earlier post, presidents can't forcibly do things to get things done without the OK from Senate as well. There are such things as checks and balances.

Third, Obama-Care is working quite fine at the moment. Everyone is worried about how this program however will increase the cost of whatever care they are receiving like most insurance-like programs do. THAT is what people were worried about with Obama-Care; not fees/prems that are higher than promised. Obama-Care, like health insurance, is a collective system.

Fourth, YOU are the one who's being spoonfed news info that has been edited or twisted to favor one political agenda over another. If you actually looked at this all objectively from multiple sources with ACTUAL research, you'd know Obama isn't worthless. He's not a grea 5b4 t president but he's not a BAD one either. He's pretty decent despite the fact that he goes behind the Rep's back without legislation to try to change immigration laws and the like.

As far as bringing prestige or whatever back to USA... it's MUCH harder to gain trust than to lose it because you can lose trust/respect in a split second whereas to gain trust/respect takes a while. Also, US will never gain trust or respect back from majority of foreigners because people are too stupid, don't do research, and blame corporations/governments for everything. Because of this they spread false information and conspiracy theories which then travel to our buddies in Europe who then begin to look down at us (as if they already didn't), then that news travels to the Muslim world who fully believes all the conspiracy theories and thus believes we are evil/selfish/vain people and such sentiments could contribute to the amount of support terrorist organizations get.

Stop blaming people for things you don't like. If you don't like what's going on so badly, get off your fat lazy butt and do something about it. Rally and gain support. You see, because US is still a good country because you CAN make a difference... Ofc if you just sit there pointing fingers but doing nothing to fix it, no one's gonna listen to you or even give you a piece of respect.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

First statement is false:

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/10/27/us/is-the-affordable-care-act-working.html

Second statement is false:

http://www.factcheck.org/2014/08/presidential-vacations/

Third statement, while true, is not an indication of the state of a country's economy on itself. It's perfectly possible to increase debt and improve an economy, moreover, debt naturally increases over the years because of different influences from inflation, to number of population and interest rates. Bush went from a $127.3 Billion surplus to a $1413 Billion deficit (a ~1200% decline), Obama went from a $1413 Billion deficit to a $492 Billion deficit (a ~65% improvement):

http://www.davemanuel.com/history-of-deficits-and-surpluses-in-the-united-states.php

The only president that came closer to Bush's deficit wa 5b4 s Roosevelt, with a $747.95 Billion Deficit, when adjusted for inflation, which is still half of what Bush "accomplished", and let's remember that Roosevelt was right in the middle of WW2.

Please stop watching Fox News and the like, you only hurt yourself by doing that. They have so many accounts of blatant lying that it's amazing how they're still on air. Remember when Obama was spending $200 Million a day (lol) in India, or when he was a Kenyan?

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

I agree. She always seems very likable and down to earth. Almost like someone you would want to know.

Two can only keep a secret when one of them is dead

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Yea, every time I see her in interviews, she is just making suggestions to people. Saying that people in the US are a bit gluttonous is not exactly a lie, but more people want to live a healthier life and that seems to be something she encourages. So what if she has a great life in England, it's her life and she loves her life. I think people take offense to a lot of things these days and you do not have to be famous to love your life or have a great life.

I don't think her statements are ignorant or arrogant. She talks about her life because she is asked about it and she is happy. I have never heard her say anything that would indicate that she thinks she is better than anyone, believe me I know. I grew up in a wealthy family and my parents instilled a sense of understanding and compassion for other people who were not as fortunate as myself. It reminds me of how Fox News tried to make a issue of 1st Lady Michelle Obama for promoting good nutrition for kids and adults because obesity is a problem in the US. All she was saying was walking with your kids give you time alone with them to talk with them and is also good exercise and eat a carrot every once in a while, not shove it up your ass.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Says the person with the Mariah Cary avatar. Talk about clueless. LOL What was that infamous statement of Carey's? "OMG I'm turning off my pager. It's all just to much!" LOLOLOL

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Yea her comments about how fun is it to talk art literature and culture in England but rolls her eyes when someone in LA asks her if she is wearing Juicy Jeans. First the quote is almost exactly what her character said in the Talented Mr. Ripley. She was suffering in New York and all the ludicrous discussions. Every time I see that scene I add and they even had the nerve to ask me about Juicy Jeans. Not as clever as she pretends. Also why does she roll her eyes at someone asking about her clothing when she is the one who wears it herself for attention, and she is the one who goes to parties with people obsessed with "lower ideas" rather than art and literature. What a moron and classless hag.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

THE REASON:

Housewives on the Internet hate her because she's 40, thin, doesn't get botox, married to a rockstar, lives in London, famous, cooks, she's an entrepreneur, etc. They're just jealous 'cause they can't find a reason to make fun of her so they just make stuff up. It's really rather sad and pathetic.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

Paltrow doesn't live in London anymore and she divorced Chris Martin over a year ago, um, kinda outdated in what you just said, no offense.

Also most people on this board who are criticizing America, I'm not trying to overly defend the country, but I'm just saying it's full of varying and different people. To criticize based off on experience, is entirely ignorant IMO.

…americans criticizing america…

saying that its... what... hypocritical or ignorant?

I'm human and I criticize human nature and humanity all the time. Does that make me wrong... or a hypocrite? As for hard working... I didn't know actors and actresses get paid millions to sit around and do nothing all day. Makes me wonder why everyone isn't doing it if its so easy?

Just sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me. A lot of small minded and bitter people just looking to take out their anger and frustration on people who have made a better life for themselves.

As for telling people how to live... throw a rock, you'll hit someone who has an opinion on how people and things should be, and are quite happy to tell everyone about it.

As for ignorance and "classist".. b68 . sounds to me that you're definately one of those (hate the wealthy, begrudge them their life... but its ok, most people are that way too).. and as for ignorance... throw a rock, you'll hit FIVE who display it. You, Me, everyone else on this site... we all have opinions and we all have a narrow viewpoint of what we want and what we think is right.

Belief in a supernatural source of evil is unnecessary -We alone are capable of every wickedness

Re: …americans criticizing america…

Ordinarily I wouldn't reply to anyone who didn't know how to spell "definitely," since it suggests he does too much talking and too little reading. But Gwyneth didn't "make" a better life for herself. She was handed every single thing she has.

Now she wants to deny her American roots, and for someone born in the insincerity capital of the U.S. (L.A.), that's really rich. I saw her rec 111c ently on Graham Norton and she took offense when Norton and his British guests treated her as American. "Well, I live here TOO," she whined, visibly upset.

No, not as long as you have wisdom behind your words and offer some form of constructive critique as opposed to using your criticisms to simply insult and condemn. As for hypocrisy -- all depends on your personal choices and what you condemn.

Regarding GP's comments, from what I have seen, they are unduly simplistic and critical without any sense of realism. It's easy to nitpick the worst and condemn it. Now, my experience with GP's comments are limited, granted, so if you have anything she's written which suggests I have her wrong, feel free to post links.

As for hard working... I didn't know actors and actresses get paid millions to sit around and do nothing all day.

I don't think most people believe she's a "do-nothing". The point is that a LOT of people work hard, and probably a lot harder than she does, at jobs which are a lot less enjoyable and don't have the rewards or perks. I'm sure she puts in effort and long hours, but does she really understand the STRUGGLE of hard work, or what it's like to work and work and never get ahead? No, I don't think she does. She is in no position to gloat.

Makes me wonder why everyone isn't doing it if its so easy?

Sometimes it's easy to be born a prince, too, or to have rich parents. So why isn't everyone doing that? Oh, right.

so if u r hitler's or bin laden's daughter there is no way u can say they were bad , cum on if u cant criticize ur country , how can u criticize ur parents ( i m indian by the way and i can fill a wikipedia page on wat i dont like about the place )

Which is interesting considering most people come to America and do the reverse. Or better yet they come here and still bash us.

It's just like cabo

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

that's very true. When non-Americans bash America, they're still wonderful, exotic foreign people with rich cultures. when an American does it, she deserves to burn and rot.

Yes, bashing your own country is bad but she isn't that bad about it. not like these young liberal "rebellious" hipster types who think they're cool, nonconformist rebels for hating on American while 100% enjoying all the great things about it, starting with the right to free speech.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

" She's made a few ignorant comments in which she criticizes Americans and the American way of life. " Well, most non-Americans (including the Canadians) feel the same way ! Nothing unusual in that whatever.

The Americans behave the same way to the rest of the world too. A decade+ ago, I was returning from a London trade exhibition on The Tube. I was aware of 2 middle-aged US tourist couples, is that vacationers in American ?. The men were OK but their partners were,to be kind, more than a little overweight. In my mind I said to myself "PLEASE don't say anything". By chance we exited the train at the same station. We walked towards the exit or interchange which involved a small flight of stairs. Half way up, one of the females suddenly said it and dismissed Britain as 'backward' because she had to walk up stairs instead of riding an escalator !

I've always wondered whether she thought exercise was related to obesity or lack thereof.

The USA might as well be another planet.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

I travelled to English a couple months ago and noticed that there was much less overweight people there than in North America.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

You have to remember America is huge and has little access to other countries unlike European countries. We can be a little closed to other cultures and how they live. You'll find this a lot less in metropolitan areas. So yes, we have been known to have culturally insensitive travelers due to a lack of exposure. Either way, criticizing others is never nice, especially to their face. I have always loved English culture amongst others and sometimes am surprised to see so much bickering between the two on this board. Personally, I found the things posters are saying Gwyneth said not that bad. If I was a public figure, I might not have said them because there are always people who deal badly with criticism and will get upset.

Re: Why do people think she's nasty?

wow, is that all? that hardly sounds that stuck up. I think the others are right and you guys just wish to believe she is horrible. Maybe because you think/know she really isn't.

Seriously... celebrities make ignorant comments all the time. Look at Jennifer Lawrence- that classless girl pukes ignorant, tactless quotes constantly yet she is BELOVED for it, as if she is some deep, philosophical genius who is unafraid to be honest and true to herself. Gwyneth at least keeps quiet and is harmless.

And what's your problem with her praise of the English? Got a problem with the limeys?
