Judy Garland : Favorite Judy Garland songs
Re: Favorite Judy Garland songs
Here are a few of my favorites that are not from her films.
On the Sunny Side of the Street: Makes me feel nice for some reason.
I Get the Blues When It Rains: Very haunting.
Sleep My Baby, Sleep: Very sad and hauntingly sung by a young Judy.
Talk, Talk, Talk: With Bing Crosby {Judy's best singing partner] a very fun song.
Blues In the Night: I don't want to use the word 'Haunting' again, but I'll have to.
More to come.

thought), it would be (in order of recording dates):

When I Look at You ("Presenting Lily Mars", 1942)
But Not For Me ("Girl Crazy", MGM version, 1943)

Look For the Silver Lining ("Till the Clouds...ALBUM version 1945)
Over the Rainbow (Carnegie Hall, '61)

One that always puts a smile on my face is 'When You Wore a Tulip' which Judy sang with Gene Kelly. They sang it briefly in FOR ME AND MY GAL, but I refer to their Decca recording in 1942.

One at the moment would be her powerhouse version of 'Come Rain Or Come Shine' that she sang at Carnegie Hall. Dynamic, electric, and beyond human.

Judy claimed that this was her favorite song. Judy sang it in IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME, but it was deleted. Included here is rare footage of Judy with Max Factor, as well as the cast of the Andy Hardy series at Grauman's Chinese Theater. The footage also contains the arrival of Judy and Mickey at Grand Central Station in New York, 1939.

Re: Favorite Judy Garland songs
'Zing Went the Strings Of My Heart' has always been a popular favorite, and I thought I would include both versions [from 1935 and 1938]. While I like both, I prefer the 1935 version. So much emotion [this is the version she sang when her father was dying].

Re: Favorite Judy Garland songs
There are those different versions of 'Over the Rainbow' that are interesting. Aside from the version we hear in THE WIZARD OF OZ, there is also the one Judy sang on COMMAND PERFORMANCE in 1943 with a hint of maturity in her voice that gives it a sexy feel at times. And there is her 1956 version with Judy, more intense, wounded and personal with a great finish.

'The Texas Tornado' from PIGSKIN PARADE
Even back then for 20th Century Fox, Judy was looked upon as something different. In the script for PIGSKIN PARADE, it usually said "Judy d 2000 oes her thing."

It was the first time MGM had a song dedicated to one of its stars. And it was sung by a little girl who was to become MGM's newest star.

Judy with 'Singin' In the Rain in LITTLE NELLIE KELLY. There is a story about a little boy who watched THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT [1974]. As the screen showed those like Jimmy Durante and Gene Kelly doing their versions, the boy showed no interest until Judy did hers. The boy lost interest in his toys and watched transfixed as Judy sang. After it was over the boy said, "Where did she go? Make her come back."
