Pretty similar.

Compare Morley in Outcast of the Islands and Laughton in Jamaica Inn.

Never seen Outcast of the Islands, but I can definitely see the similarity. I would venture to say that Laughton was many times the actor Morley was, but they both possess a certain similar quality that I enjoy in both of them.

Other than their appearances there was no similarity between Laughton and Morley. Laughton had a far better range than Morley. One connection is that Laughton was supposed to star in MARIE ANTOINETTE. Morley made his film debut in that film.

Just saw OUTCAST OF THE ISLAND today and it was the first time I've seen Robert Morley in a real dramatic part.

However I don't think he and Charles Laughton had much in common except for their less than handsome appearances.
