Beauty and the Beast : The many official Belle Ball gowns (There are more than you realize)

The many official Belle Ball gowns (There are more than you realize)

Re: The many official Belle Ball gowns (There are more than you realize)

And somehow the gown for this movie pales in comparison to every single one of them.

Agreed. It looks so cheap and not nice at all. Certainly doesn't look like silk like the cartoon does, not is it gold.

To you, Baldrick, the Renaissance was just something that happened to other people, wasn't it?

You're right. It's more yellow than the others. The others had a golden yellow, particularly the one for Belle and Rumplestiltskin of Once Upon a Time.

The novelization Explains it away that "She doesn't like frills." And I guess that's all right but it seems odd in the era of frills that she woudl care so much. Even The Beast's outfit has frills. Come to think of it so does Rumplestiltskin. In fact the only "Beast" who doesn't have some frill is Goliath and he's wearing a tattered loin cloth and belt.

Thanks for the link! After looking at the final trailer (especially the moment that Belle curtseys and looks up at the Beast) it appears that the shoulder detail of Belle's yellow ball gown changed. Or maybe it didn't since I don't think we were ever given a good view of the front of the gown. In the first early peeks it looked like just simple straps on the shoulders. Emma was twirling the gown in a way that we could not really see the details. Now with the appearance of more extended cap sleeves I think it looks much better.

Do you think the look of the gown changed between the first sneak peek and the final trailer? Or was it always the final version we are seeing now. After looking at Belle and Beast dancing in the ballroom, I can understand why Belle's gown looked so subtle on the surface. The ballroom itself appears quite elaborate in design. It would be harder for her to stand out if her gown was as fancy as the ballroom's interior design.

I think this was always the finished version in mind. They certainly didn't do any last minute reshoots (as far as I know). The early promotional images look like they deliberately obscured most of the detail to make her ethereal, mysterious and to keep people curious. I saw a similar effect when Disney / Marvel was promoting Doctor Strange and what his costume ultimately looked like (which was much better than I anticipated).
