Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi : Luke dying would be unforgivable
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Yup, the TFA characters aren't as interesting as the originals, BB8 is the best from the new cast.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
although i liked TFA or at least didnt mind it, Luke dying would be the end for my fandom
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
I really hope they don't kill him off, deserves a lot better than that.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Why did you leave off that Carrie Fisher is dead, and Lucas Films revealed today that Leia will not return in digital form for Episode 9?

Thanks.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
They wont kill him off, they've already killed off Han, they are going to have to kill off Leia, and in Rogue One they killed off nearly the entire cast, i very much doubt Luke will die

I don't know if they killed Luke off or not, but the film's already in the can. From the things I've read, Leia hasn't been killed off and was supposed to be a major part of Episode X, and I've read mixed things about Luke being killed off, most being in favor that he was. Now, I hope that's not true, but I wouldn't be totally opposed to it if they were to bring Luke back in Episode X (which they likely would, since they did it for Yoda and Obi-Wan) as a Force ghost. Now that Carrie Fisher has died, it's totally possible that they'll do reshoots, where they'll kill Leia off and not Luke (if Luke had been killed off to begin with). Needless to say, whether Luke lives or dies in Episode IX, Mark Hamill will likely be back for Episode X.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Given that they killed off Han Solo and the tragic death of Carrie Fisher I doubt that they would kill off Luke.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
It's Star Wars. Significant characters die in every episode. Don't be surprised if Luke dies.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
I'd be very disappointed if that happens, but then again I've been disappointed in Star Wars for a long long time
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
I think Luke getting killed off would be even sadder than Han dying.

It would pretty much end any chance of me seeing XI in theaters, and I may not even buy the movie to view at home, if they kill Luke of in this one.

Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Luje was supposed to die at the end, but Leia will sacrifice herself to save her brother, her son, and Rey in this episode. Leia's last words are something along the line of take care of them.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Luke is basically the Yoda figure now in the series. Which means he will train Rey in this one, then he'll die in Ep. 9. But it will be a sort of "fade into the force" type death and not him getting killed.

Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Dude, they killed Han Solo. They can pretty much do whatever they want now, for all I care.
Not to mention, Ford wanted out in ROTJ, Fisher is dead, and Hamill is pretty much disgusted with the way Disney is handling this new trilogy anyway. So fck it, kill 'im. It's just a fcking movie, guys.
Come quietly, or there will betrouble.

Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Is there any evidence of Hamill being upset with the new movie/team/direction? I believe you are right about this but I would like to watch/read it as well. The only thing that I can think of at the moment is what he said on stage at celebration, the little comments like, "she hasn't even gone to dagobah for training" and "fine, you don't want me on the poster, I don't want to be on your poster."
Thanks in advance

Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
There is literally nothing I've read that suggests that Mark Hamill is in anyway angry or disgusted with the way Disney are handling the new trilogy.

Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
if he dies, then we can all agree that Star Wars is done.
No we can not agree that Star Wars is done more like a lot of fans will spit out their dummies and stamp their feet. As much as I like Luke as a character, he was always my favourite as a kid when Star Wars first came out I am not so hung up on him as an adult to think that Star Wars can not exist as a franchise without him. I really don't see Star Wars killing the Jedi off though and maybe the title actually refers to Luke as being the last master Jedi and will focus on him rebuilding the Jedi order. I have not looked into the plot details. Still the franchise should work towards having a new generation of heroes that can be developed for us to fall in love with because Luke can not be around forever.
To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
I would rather Rey die and Luke take over as the titular last Jedi.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
We would be right there where we left in Ep6, only Luke is exchanged with Rey
That was pretty much the whole point of this trilogy to begin with (besides make $$$). It was a typical Hollywood social justice warrior project to reboot everything with a female lead. They probably don't really have any broader or more interesting story to tell beyond that.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Well, killing him off in ep VIII would be more than unforgivable, but if he dies peacefully in ep IX I could take it. I dont think ep VIII is the last we see of him, it would be a waste of such an amazing character
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
Kathleen Kennedy wants rey to be the 'real' chosen one and TRUE saviour of the galaxy, not Luke. Because she.
Re: Luke dying would be unforgivable
For you maybe. Luke has never been the reason I care for SW. No one character is bigger than the SW universe in it's entirety.

Luke dying would be unforgivable
for various reasons:
1) For copying the OT and giving us NOTHING new or original
2) if he dies then Luke, who we thought of being the great hero of the saga, is basically the most useless Jedi ever. Created a new order and failed with it. He would have achieved nothing. We would be right there where we left in Ep6, only Luke is exchanged with Rey
3) Luke is the most interesting character at this point
4) teasing Luke a whole movie long, then kill him off in the next one.
all these points are unforgivable
