Bride of Frankenstein : Can I see this without having seen the original?

Can I see this without having seen the original?

Or will I be missing out on plot or the look of it or something? Is it a stand alone film?

Re: Can I see this without having seen the original?

The two movies combined have a running time of two hours and 25 minutes, about the length of many modern movies. BoF picks up literally where Frankenstein ends, and given that both are directed by the same person (James Whale) and feature Boris Karloff and Colin Clive in their iconic roles, I would definitely recommend watching both together. More than any other pair of Universal Monster movies, I'd say these two truly feel like they're telling one longer story.

That said, be aware that there are a number of inconsistencies between the two movies, such as the recasting of Elizabeth and the disappearance of Victor (few notice that the character isn't in the sequel, fewer still lament his absence).
