Life is what happens while you're planning something else. I wanted to be a cartoonist.

Yes they do. We just have to roll with the punches. Baz Luhrmann, the Australian Film Director, had some very wise thoughts on this matter in his famous 1999 "Sunscreen" commencement speech. Listening to it is 5:03 well spent.

Re: Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid?
I wanted to be an actor, filmmaker, paleontologist, or musician. Gave up on the idea of being a paleontologist once I realized that it's not exactly all that exciting of a career. Didn't really have the drive to be a great musician. Actor and filmmaker are still on the table, though.
Fixin to buckle down and get started on the path to become one of those. Better late than never, I guess.

Re: Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid?
As a child, I originally dreamed of becoming a police officer, mainly because Iβve always been fascinated over putting a few dents in the rise of crime. However, after learning about what that entails, and that people unfortunately treat cops in the same way that they treat public benches, I decided to look for a career in a different field without ever going to a police academy. One pretty much has to have the reflexes of being able to do acrobatics over lasers at the speed of a bullet, while having the ability to defuse a high pressure situation.

A police officer. Now I'm much higher salaried but in a close field, so it all worked out.
Re: Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid?
My mother kept one of those books that records things from kindergarten through 12th grade, and one of the earliest entries indicated that as a little girl, my ambition was to be: Catwoman.

See? I was a touch "off" even as a little kid. The signs were all there…

Re: Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid?
I think the first time I was asked that in first grade, I said a veterinarian…cos I really loved animals and wanted to take care of all of em.
That idea didn't last long but I still loved animals.
When I was in third grade, I had a very creative teacher who was like a big kid and very fun to be around, and she favored me for some reason.
We did a Christmas play that she came up with and wrote, which I got a big kick out of.
It was us doing the Dating Game show…and my former school crush was cast as Suzy Snowflake as the bachelorette…I was cast as one of the three bachelors - I was Rudolf, and I had this little red light bulb taped to my nose that would light up…lol…the whole class got a huge kick out of it.
The other bachelors were Santa and Frosty The Snowman.
There was a gameshow host and three girls watching the show on TV at home and their Mom telling them they had to go to bed…but they begged to watch the show first.
One of the girls had a huge crush on Rudolf and wanted him to be picked…and she was disappointed that he wasn't picked.
Suzy ended up picking Santa…and she won a ride on his sleigh…lol
Suzy started to become a tomboy within that school year, and I lost my crush on her…she became a lesbian but we remained friends.
The girl who had a crush on Rudolf really did have a crush on me, and she became my real life girlfriend after that…I developed a serious crush on her the following year…but we ended up getting separated from being in the same class the year after that, and then I switched schools, so I didn't see her again after that, which broke my heart.
Anyway, because I got so into that play, I was often cast in school plays and would get lead parts - I easily remembered my lines and my classmates told me I was gonna be famous one day.
I didn't really see myself becoming an actor though…I just did it for the fun of it.
I wrote a play myself the following year and directed it…and the class performed it for our teacher.
Looking back on that, I laugh…cos I didn't realize how bold I was at that age.
Especially that I had became more reserved in my high school years.
By that time, I was focused more on becoming a film editor…but in college, I got into radio and TV production, and was getting jobs as a freelance writer.
I did get cast as an extra in a movie, but I realized then that I didn't want to be in front of the camera…I'd rather be behind it.
There was nothing glamorous about walking around horse manure all day and having gay dudes make you keep trying on different pants because they conveniently didn't have any in my size…lol
Are you okay?

Re: Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid?
I liked all of those variety shows they had on TV when I was a kid. They had a lot of background dancers. At first, I want ed to dance in a group like that, or maybe the dancers in musicals. Later on, as the 60s progressed, I thought it would be fun to be a Go Go Dancer.

I wanted to be a writer since grade school. I'm the #1 writer of mini-bios on the IMDb. Moreover, I've written published articles and film reviews for such publications as Shock Cinema, Cult Movies magazine, Screem magazine, and The Exploitation Journal. To paraphrase a great verse from the Tom Russell "Box of Visions," never throw you dreams away because they might save your life someday.

Re: Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid?
I was happy just being a kid. I never thought that far ahead.
Do you remember what you wanted to be as a kid?
In middle school I took a bunch of improv and drama classes and loved it . Performed in a couple of plays in High School but over time It became strictly a hobby. I realized it was fun but I didnβt love it enough to commit to memorizing lines , attend weekly rehearsals and do repeat performances.
And of course I end up majoring in STEM in College and choosing a career in a science field. The career trajectory you dream about as a kid rarely becomes your destiny.
