The Prisoner of Shark Island : Give me a break

Give me a break

This was another racist revision of the Antebellum South just like 20 years prior in Birth of a Nation. It depicted slavery as not so cruel and the black slaves as happy to serve their masters. It is well documented that Dr. Mudd was not an innocent victim and was told by Booth that he had slain the president. He had met with Booth on at least three occasions. In addition, Mudd was also involved in a kidnapping plot with Booth and other conspirators. The northerners were portrayed as capricious and hypocritical. All this was done so as to validate the current system of Jim Crow discrimination which African-Americans suffered at that time.

Re: Give me a break

Where is it documented that Dr. Mudd was not an innocent victim, and knew Booth?
I'm just asking.
