Sort of agree. It’s overhyped. The performances were great though. When Sacsha Baren Cohen was attached to play Freddy, it was going to be darker and a hard-R.

Cohen wanted the film to be true to life. The members of Queen were worried about their bullshit legacy and nix'd Cohen from the project. Typical bullshit. I detest Queen and all they stand for.

Not my thing, too campy. His duet with Bowie was moribund.
It sounds like their real life behind the scenes would have made a great movie. But I read that Cohen felt the movie was not crazy enough and the guys from Queen had too much control and they were worried about PR for the band.

I agree…and had to deal with the craziest Freddie fanatic / Glambert on IMDb's American Idol board for 6 years…lol
She was more obsessed with me, but it was fun and a headache at the same time.

I don't know much about Queen in their heyday, but they didn't mix well with American Idol…and it was too obvious the producers and the media were trying to shove them and Adam down people's throats, and they used that to sabotage the guy who won that season…and that is what I attempted to defend.
I didn't see the film, but I know it wouldn't touch on any meaning behind the lyrics to the song, Bohemian Rhapsody, nor anything that would make it interesting.
It's just another shameless plug for the band to sell those overplayed songs ad nauseam
I do find some of the interpretations of the song interesting though
This would've been something Belize would've had a field day with arguing with me about, along with giving me flack about Adam performing at the Oscars.
Not to mention that she would've laughed her ass off over the scandalous path I had taken since leaving that board…especially that I used to plug Luke Shaffer's songs there at the time, and she knew I wasn't him, though I never claimed I was him back then.

Yeah, I do not like Queen's campy music. But a film on their lives could be a great one.
Queen's first two albums were great: Hard hitting clean guitar-fueled glam rock. But Bohemian Rhapsody was a faux-operatic farce.
It seems Cohen left because he wanted to show the good and the bad, not just do a promo for Queen's music.
If Cohen had been involved it would have been a great movie. Here's a quote from Cohen about Mercury and the direction he would have taken the film:

I was already very close with Patrick…he was the reason I got involved with the Soapbox right after IMDb closed their boards.
I joined the chat group he was in a couple months later and we hung out nearly every night for several months.

I did the same thing. I have it on DVD and it took me three days to finally finish it because I kept getting bored and turned it off, then later would go back and start watching it again. I still fast forward through some of it.

I thought the same thing, and the way some of the scenes went on and on for no real reason like when they were talking about recording Bohemian Rhapsody and then when they were out in the country studio recording it. I have the DVD and I started fast forwarding through some of it.
