The Best Years of Our Lives : I'm so very sad

I'm so very sad

I've met some wonderful people through your message board! People who love and appreciate the same movies that I love. I'm not too much of a social media person and will really miss the responses and connections with these fans. Please reconsider your decision.

Re: I'm so very sad

I agree! I'm going to miss this site!

😭😭😭

Re: I'm so very sad

I came here hoping to learn something about Harold Russell's portrayal of the amputtee.

Now there will be no reason to visit imdb.

Re: I'm so very sad

Me too. I found IMDB way back in the 90's in its first incarnation. I don't use Facebook, Twitter (how can you use Twitter for conversation?), or any of those kiddie sites. Very sad day.

God works in mysterious ways.

Re: I'm so very sad

Me too. None has of the other boards even mentioned it. A sad day indeed.

Re: I'm so very sad

Here is an alternative board. http://imdb2.freeforums.net/

Re: I'm so very sad

Don't waste $2.99 on this. It's impossible to navigate. Sorry

Re: I'm so very sad

I've found a "The Best Years of Our Lives" board on Google Groups, but no one has posted yet.

Re: I'm so very sad

I agree. It's horrible. They've given their reasons, but I don't see it. Part of the appeal is coming to this message board and reading, and commenting on, old threads.

Re: I'm so very sad

I am very sad about this as well.
I recently watched The Best Years of Our Lives on TCM with a small informal senior movie group. I always bring along my tablet with the IMDb message boards loaded up to help with the discussion. The ladies (in their late 80s and beyond) are always eager to hear what 'the people on the computer' have to say about the films! Their faces light right up, amazed that others still appreciate these classics.
It is so much more than just the films though, it is the memories - who they saw the movie with, the name of the theater, how much for admission, that sort of thing. Lot's of smiles, sometimes tears.

And every cat in the twilight’s gray,
Every possible cat."

God bless you! I used to do this a few years ago (not with a tablet, however). The amount of depression lifted and the will to remember, in those with age-related mood disorders or cognitive difficulties, is AMAZING in group discussions of "their" generation's television shows or films.

I have started a Google Groups discussion board for a particular show/film I've devoted considerable years of my life to . Although the membership is slow to grow, it might expand once IMDB is finally gone. It would be wonderful if someone from this BYOOL board did the same.

Anyone who ever used Usenet in the 90's or early 00's will realize that Google Groups IS Usenet. The only difference between IMDB message boards and Usenet is the nice graphics and colors. Google has allowed some of the bells and whistles ("bolding," italicizing, block-quoting) that Usenet never had.

Keep up the good work! Maybe the ladies would enjoy some old Don Knotts films or Disney children's films from the 50's and 60's.

Re: I'm so very sad

Thanks,those are great ideas!
We watched "The Secret Garden" (the one with Margaret O'Brien) a few weeks ago, and it went over very well!
