I love Lucy "First Stop" Episode and stock footage.

Does anyone knows the stock footage that was used for this episode came from? During the driving scene, when they showed the close-up of the 4 of them, I know is shot on a sound stage, but when they showed the car moving from far away, or when Lucy got out of the car to checked on Aunt Sally's pecan pralines sign, those scenes looked more like it came from a movie.

Update, never mind, I found the answer. There was no stock footage.

When the director went on a mini road trip to film real car scenes to add to the editing, they goofed for the Aunt Sally's shot. When "Lucy" gets out of the car, the actress portraying Lucy was wearing a dress. The real Lucy was wearing pants.

Bart Andrews' book mentions that this episode was the first time thy filmed outdoors so my guess would be that it was local Los Angeles or close to it.

Something occurred to me when watching this episode (Hallmark Network had the chopped version of it on the other day) - Fred Mertz is from Steubenville OH. This episode is the gang in Ohio, with Ricky vowing not to stop for food or rest until they hit Cincinnati.

Yet Fred concurs he's as lost as the rest of them. Even though he may not have had a car, wouldn't he know a little bit about Ohio's highways, even then? I guess it was a continuity error, but it always nags at me when I watch that episode.

Yeah, the dress/pants goof is another thing. I think we've all watched the show enough to recognize that dark top's placket as seen from the partial opening of Lucy's coat - it is part of a pants outfit she is usually seen wearing at home - and it would have been a comfy travel outfit.

The one thing I always liked was that they always wore the outfits more than once - it gave a real air of believability to the goofiness, lol!

When they're in that grubby room, I read in a book about the show that they would often leave on their hosiery or socks in scenes where they had to wear pj's and then be in a new outfit the next scene - it saved time in the filming process. It's obvious in this episode and I always enjoy it - you can see the darker heels of Lucy's stockings, nd that Ricky is obviously wearing socks. It's in numerous episodes too.
