New "I Love Lucy" DVD in Jan. 2017

Re: New "I Love Lucy" DVD in Jan. 2017

After having watched these episodes for so long in black & white, I'd find the color distracting. On the other hand, I've grown used to the bright color of Lucille Ball's hair in THE LUCY SHOW and HERE'S LUCY, but for some odd reason I don't like to see her in color during the I LOVE LUCY period.

I have a hard time with the colorized versions of the ILL episodes. I think it takes away from the nostalgia and classic tv theme. I also like to look at scenes from the show and wonder what the colors really were and not what someone decided they should be.

Just watched the colorized Christmas special and enjoyed it immensely. I can watch in B/W any day of the week but this was great!

I like the colorized episodes. It gives me another reason to enjoy the show seeing what color things were. Only thier skin and hair look off to me but it's not a huge deal.

I'm assuming they are the accurate colors. I see someone above mentions they choose what they want but I'm thinking they must have some real colored set pics or something from back then for reference to at least get it close. I don't know this for sure but I don't think they'd just pick colors for fun.

I have nothing against "colorization," if it is done well.

But keep in mind, that black and white TV (and films) used colors and were lit to show up well in black and white. So, we can only guess how accurate the colors are.

For example, Bette Davis' red dress in "Jezebel" was really some shade of brown to photograph well.

It was also difficult (in color) to combine colors. One person in a red dress and one in a green dress could look orange and black if not lit properly.

A lot of thought and effort went into filming.

Ya I get that but that's why I said as close as possible. Maybe not 100% spot on technically speaking but in general I think they're probably as accurate as they could be. I just highly doubt they'd color things whatever they want as suggested before.

Some close references or old pictures have to exist.

Skin color still doesn't look right, and Lucy's hair just seems way too bright. The same company did the recent colorization of The Dick Van Dyke Show. Skin colors still look too uniform and not the right shade, but all in all, they looked better than the Lucy episodes.
