What's the last album or movie you purchased?

For anyone interested, I've recreated this thread at

http://imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/789/recent-purchases-gifts-received
&
http://www.bcb-board.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=133657

The imdb2 is kind of neat in that they cloned all the categories from here making it feel just a bit like home. I've got buddies at both places, so I reckon I'll be posting at both for a while.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

Damn. That box set of the 'Batman' TV series sure looks impressive.

The Guardian and Cherry Falls are worth picking up for any fan of the movies and for fans of Scream Factory product in general. It's just too bad that SF couldn't port over the Friedkin commentary for The Guardian from the Anchor Bay DVD.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

I haven't taken the Batman box out of the shrinkwrap yet. I almost don't want to; it's such a gorgeous looking package even from the outside and definitely something that I'm sure many collectors would want to keep intact. But, of course, I will.

I've never seen either of those SF titles before. I may save them for the upcoming October challenge. Too bad about the Anchor Bay commentary.

How 'bout that cast on 'The Dirty Dozen'? Such a good movie. I bought in on blu-ray way back on a twofer with 'The Green Berets'. I still haven't watched it to see how the transfer came out.

I've never gotten around to seeing Labyrinth, though I probably should.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

"The Dirty Dozen" is an upgrade for me. I saw it for a fairly cheap price and thought, "what the Hell". The testosterone levels are through the roof, in a good way.

"Labyrinth" is good fantasy. I checked it out for the first time after David Bowies' untimely passing, and quite enjoyed it.

I've preordered the vinyl of the Hypnopazuzu album, Create Christ, Sailor Boy, and am expecting it to be on my desk when I return to work on Wednesday. It's a collaboration between Youth and David Tibet, which means Current 93 have just 1 person of separation from Paul McCartney. What an odd world.

I've never bought a movie (how many times can I watch the same movie?).

The last album I bought was David Bowie's "Blackstar" but I have pre-ordered David Bowie's second in a series of box sets "Who Can I Be Now".

God knew he was good and God did look the other way that day.

That would depend on the movie.

The last physical album I bought was.I think..Mud's greatest hits. I could be wrong because I haven't bought a physical album in probably close to a decade.

The last complete album I bought off of ITunes was a Cheech and Chong album or possibly Jerky Boys. The last album of music I bought was probably Plastic Beach or Jarvis Cocker's second solo album.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

That's already on blu? I was thinking it was a fairly recent release. I was watching some local news show on tv a couple of weeks ago that had a panel raving about it. Sounds like it's worth taking a peek.

http://www.haneke.net/

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

Yup, indeed it is. I loved the director John Carney's Once (2007), and his follow-up Begin Again (2013) is pretty solid as well. Sing Street is another music-themed film yet again from him, and it looks like a lot of fun.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

I watched it over the weekend. Yea, overall I kinda liked it and it was certainly entertaining enough but I was a bit underwhelmed. I could see the final "twist" regarding the identity of the protagonist coming. And there's something about Jeremy Northam that rubs me the wrong way a bit, haha. I like some of Natali's other films better, like Cube (my favorite), Nothing, and Splice. He's a rather underrated genre filmmaker.

Fighting the frizzies, at 11.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

I honestly don't remember that much about it, just that I enjoyed it. I quite liked Cube too, great concept. I think that's the only other Natali I've seen. I've heard of Nothing and it looks quite interesting so will have to check it out sometime.

A beauty queen from Idaho, was broken in the fall

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

Nothing is pretty much a comedy, quite funny I thought, but again with Natali it's very high-concept (the premise basically being 2 loser friends/roommates who "wish" the outside world away and it comes true). Philosophical fantasy buddy comedy, an interesting mix. And the 2 stars of the film were both in Cube.

Those Grindhouse Blu & CD packages are definitely expensive but worth the money. I have Cannibal Ferox, Cannibal Holocaust, Pieces, and The Beyond so far. I'm looking at getting Cat in the Brain next, at some point.

It's always a good time watching Bronson on Blu.

Bloody Birthday is a hoot. Maybe I'll watch that on my birthday later this month.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

Yeah, those Grindhouse blu's are a tad bit on the expensive side, but so far I've been impressed with the quality and presentation of what they've put out.
Other features I have from them are: On blu-ray 'The Beyond' and 'The Big Gundown' On DVD, 'Cannibal Holocaust' & 'Pieces' (not sure if I'll upgrade those or not.)
I'm sort of interested in picking up 'Corruption' with Peter Cushing.

http://www.haneke.net/

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

I can recommend "Corruption". That's one of the silliest and sleaziest things that the almighty Cushing ever did. The only thing I don't like is the ending.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

Nice haul.

'Out of the Past' is one of my favorite noir flicks. Robert Mitchum was just plain terrific in that. I reckon I'd consider it one of his best performances ever.
'Midnight Run' and 'Zodiac' are also both favorites.

Not to be a downer, but AC/DC's 'Flick of the Switch' was one of the most disappointing albums that I can ever recall hearing when I was a teenager. I had always thought that 'For Those About to Rock' was a slight step down from 'Back in Black', though still very decent album. 'Flick of the Switch' however oh brother . I thought they came back pretty well with 'Fly on the Wall' though.

http://www.haneke.net/

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

Maybe I'm just way too easy to please, but 'Flick of the Switch' isn't so bad to me. 'Landslide' in particular is one of the most up tempo songs that I've heard from them. Is this album generally regarded poorly by fans of the band? I thought I'd check it out because it seemed like a 'forgotten' album to me. It's far from their best, I do grant you, but agreeable enough IMO.

'Out of the Past' was on my radar after I saw somebody showing it some love at Facebook. I was fortunate to then find it at a very reasonable price at one of my haunts.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

Well, I don't know what most fans think of it today. I just recall me and my buddies all being in agreement that it was pretty bad. At the time, I was a huge AC/DC fan.
I checked RATEYOURMUSIC and it's the 3rd lowest rated album by them. Oddly enough, 'Fly on the Wall', the one I considered to be a comeback album, is the very lowest. Clearly, they're all wrong and I'm right . Well, I'm glad you like it in the end that's all that really matters.

You've been picking up some choice noir. 'Double Indemnity' is certainly among the best of the best.

Re: What's the last album or movie you purchased?

'Double Indemnity' was recommended to me by Amazon.ca. I took the plunge since I know it's regarded as an American classic, and I hadn't yet seen it. Barbara Stanwyck is one of the most alluring femme fatales in the entire noir genre.
