Robinson Crusoe on Mars : Draper's Equipment

Draper's Equipment

I remember, as a child, being fascinated by Kit's audio/video unit. It was so cool that it had a camera stored inside. Does anyone know if this was any kind of real device? Or was it just made up as a prop for the film?

If you were observing this nutty planet, would YOU want to make contact?

Re: Draper's Equipment

The Solar Systems first VHS Camcorder 20 years ahead of time!

Re: Draper's Equipment

B&W CRT display screen, the overall package was brilliant.
Really cool, and with Video recording and PB capability,
radio telemetry voice recognition and control of the ship.
All, Way ahead of it's time.

It's worth also being reminded that,
The first few Apollo Moon landings featured pretty lousy
TV image quality. I was not until later missions that
it improved dramatically, including color.

Re: Draper's Equipment

Oh, yes, I caught that right off the first time I saw it as a kid. The ship was modular and was designed to be disassembled if needed. I've always been a hardware nut. I tried to build one of the A/V units out of Lego.
