Re: One hell of a movie!
How does that work you went to movie theater and didn't know what the movie could be?
Re: One hell of a movie!
That is just what a "Sneak Preview" is around here. You pay five or six Euros (which is really cheap) and don't really know what they are going to show. It's always a movie that hasn't been released yet and could be some crap you'd never watch or a great flick (like "Moon" once or "Silver Linings" a few weeks ago).
Re: One hell of a movie!
Are you really comparing this to No Country For Old Men? Though this movie is not bad, its no where near as good as No Country. Please take back you statement, i must insist.
Re: One hell of a movie!
I too like this movie more than No Country.

Re: One hell of a movie!
Bana's back must really hurt from carrying this movie from awful to mediocrity.
Re: One hell of a movie!
Agree! Fantastic movie that deserves wider distribution and much more acclaim.
Re: One hell of a movie!
I've been reading reviews, and they are very interesting; I do not feel that this movie has much in common with Fargo besides the weather, though. Fargo had a black and bitter satirical humor, which was perhaps its most striking characteristic. It was the reflections on human foolishness, given an epilogue by the officer accompanied by the dirge that began the movie, as she is driving the psychopathic murderer to jail. It is this deadly and comical goose chase into the hands of fate that shapes Fargo. But Deadfall lacks any humor at all, nor is any humor fitting with this type of movie. It is, however, a very well-directed thriller and the accidents of fate here are almost (almost) plausible. I say that because the movie is a bit too filled with convenient coincidence and departs credibility at some point. Nevertheless, I liked the director's treatment of the action scenes, and I liked many of the lines in the screenplay. While not a masterpiece,I thought it was very well done. Bitter cold is such a great setting because the weather acts almost as a character in and of itself, pushing the danger and putting pressure on the characters, deciding their fates. Any Jack London of Ernest Hemingway story set in winter demonstrates that very well. There must be many other authors too. Hey, in fact, I myself am an author and just published a novel set in Alaska (NOT self published BTW). The shortening days and the increasing cold contribute to the murder in my own novel; the characters are affected by the encroaching storms and dropping temperatures, which helps drive them to make some of the choices that end in tragedy.
Re: One hell of a movie!
This film has no substance to it. It's a bad script that translated into a bad film. I enjoyed the first 30 minutes but it died after that.
This movie never took off while Fargo and No Country for Old Men take off pretty quick.
And there's no comparing this simplistic screenplay to that of the Coen's work on Fargo or No Country. There's no comparison. This screenplay shouldn't have been greenlit, it needed more work.
I enjoyed this for Olivia Wilde, but that's about it. Bana was good but not as mean as he was in Chopper, Treat Williams was a bit annoying, the character and the performance.
I couldn't believe it ended so quickly and that Eric Bana made it to the house before Olivia Wilde and Charlie Hunnam did.
Disappointing for me because the beginning showed so much promise.

I enjoyed the hell out of it too. It had its issues but Bana was amazing.

Re: One hell of a movie!
It's not your average popcornmovie, but a good movie for the budget. I'm surprised to see it didn't do well commercially.
Why is it good? It's believable, unpredictable movie with some good acting. Don't forget the fact that you have people using different accents.

Re: One hell of a movie!
I had never even heard of it before a friend let me use a few movies(I'm overseas). I really liked it, but couldn't believe how ridiculously stupid the ending was. I thought for sure they would at least show what happened to Humman and the sister, maybe they escaped to Canada. That ending spoiled a really awesome movie.
