9½ Weeks : Who should play John + Elizabeth in the remake?

Some posts on this board have wished for a remake that is closer to the book. Just for fun, whom would you cast in the leads? For me, I'd like to see Joaquin Phoenix and Kate Bosworth.

Scarlett is a great idea! She has major lips like basinger. Hugh Jackman would be too old for her. How about Jake Gyllenhaal or that guy from Pride and Prejudice Mathew Macfayden.

I think no one can fit now. If remake is there the actors need to be young.

I love Matthew McFadden , believe me I do, but he is just not right for this part. Yes he is cute (ok gorgeous) but I don't believe he can do raw sexuality like Mickey Rourke (9 1/2 weeks) or Richard Gere (American Gigolo). How about Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman. Scarlet Johannson is just too young.

Unfortunately I don't think there are any male actors suitable for the part of John. This film came along at just the right time for just the right actor, and I couldn't imagine anyone else in the part, even just speaking in the abstract. Mickey Rourke owns it, pure and simple.
Kim Basinger does her usual best at nearly ruining the film. However, Rourke has charisma to burn, and the film succeeds only because of him. Just as an aside, he wears the best outfits in this film, and they've not dated a bit. I really want that overcoat!

there cannot be any remakes. it would just not be possible for someone to create the same emotional environment and make the movie interesting through the characters - there just arent any suitable characters

yeh, jonathan rhys meyers.he wouldn't be too bad, since the character has to be sexy, but also with just enough sleaze to make you a bit uncomfortable but obviously with enough charisma that you don't run out of the theatre feeling like you just witnessed akin to pedophilia or incest

None. The original actor's being Rourke and Basinger in 80's timeline are the charm of the movie. Work out a new original romance from here.

Well, I haven't read the book. But based on the movie, Ben Affleck would be great to play Mickey's part. Since this is a remake, I'd want to put a fresh, modern twist to the story. For Kim's part, I would choose someone who has light blond hair (not golden) with a soft, passive, and innocent look. I don't know of any actress like that, so I guess I would choose Kate Bosworth like the poster above me. She is the only actress that could come close, but it still wouldn't be ideal casting.

how about no one. No one can replace or even compare to rourkes role in that film. Kim Bassingers either. He is stunning in that film and there could NEVER be any man that could even come close to doing half the job he did. Especially in the beginning when she first sees him in the store and the way he looks at her. There is no one who could pull that off. He is breath taking.

Everyone keeps bringing up these little men to play John. james Mcavoy.really? I pray they never remake this movie first off, and there seriously is no actor that could replace mickey. The actor has to be a bad boy for sure. Someone maybe along the lines of colin farrell but much taller and just a little more rugged.

i agree with everything you said above. I hope they never get that tacky idea to remake nine and a half weeks, it could never be the same NOR would anyone who was staring in it. NO one could ever hold a candle to rourke.

I agree with you guys. There should be no remake. Mickey Rourke is the one and only who could play that role.
But if someone decided to make a remakethe only name on my mind would be Eric Bana.

Boab is not against remakes like some whingers moan about every time they hear a film is getting remade. Yeah, some shouldnae get remade but some I dinnae mind like the Superman one or The Getaway but there's no way you could remake this film. There is just nobody around who is as sexy as Kim Basinger was at that time.
She was one of the most- nay, THE most - beautiful woman in the world in the 80s and 90s and very sexy too. She was smoulderingly HOT. Also there is no actor as great AND good looking as Mickey was back then. There are many pretty boy actors but they are all *beep* actors. Mickey had looks AND could act- like Brando.
But if they did remake this they'd probably get some prat like Jude Law and Sienna Miller. Who are a sexy couple but are NOT Rourke and Basinger. Law is no Rourke in his prime and no woman now touches Kim.
10 or 15 years ago maybe Uma Thurman definitely and Gary Oldman (who were a couple) but no, no one can touch Rourke and Kim here. The film is not by any means great but it's a timeless snapshot of sexy 80s cinema.

Either Orlando Bloom or Ewan McGregor for Mickey's part, and CHristina Aguilera for Kim's Part.

Well for the role of John its got to be someone who makes your crotch tinglein a good way. I would say maybe Clive Owen, Ryan Gosling or John Hamm.

For Elizabeth, I would like to see maybe Diane Kruger, Malin Akerman or January Jones. But in all reality, there really isn't anyone out there that could even compare to Rourke and Basinger.

Scarlett Johanssen is a joke, by the way.

Remake should not be done but well it probably will be at some point.

Whatever. She is one of the few younger actresses that can actually show raw passion in the terms needed for a role like this. Imagine someone like Natalie Portman - she would look like a little girl playing dress up when trying to be sexualized.

I like the idea of Ryan Gosling and Johansson filling into these roles.

You can get Mickey and Kim to make cameos or something.

I think Charlie Hunnam, Henry Cavill, or David Gandy for John.

For Elizabeth: Michelle Williams or Felicity Jones.

Charlie Hunnam paired with Michelle Williams would be amazing.

My second favorite pairing: Hunnam with Felicity Jones.

I think Charlie has the hypnotic good looks and intense, overwhelming charm of John and Michelle could capture the fragility, desperation, and beauty of Elizabeth very well.

All the actors I mentioned are about the same age MR (I recently tweaked my list, but even the actors who I removed were early to mid 30s) was when he played the role. Michelle is about the same age Kim was when she played the role and Feliciaty is only 5 years younger than Kim was. Felicity or Michelle could pull this role off beautifully.

I like CT, but I just can't see her as Elizabeth. She has a toughness about her that Elizabeth lacked.

I like Charlie Hunam for John. I'll add Hunam to my revised casting choices. I think both roles will be hard to recast but not impossible if they ever choose to do a remake. I like Connelly and Kruger, but I can't see either actress as Elizabeth.


My revised choices for John: Henry Cavill, Tom Welling, Wentworth Miller, Chris Hemsworth, or Charlie Hunam.

My choices for Elizabeth remain the same: Michelle Williams or Felicity Jones.

Although, Jessica Marais and Alexis Bledel have been growing on me as possible choices for Elizabeth.
