The Wicker Man : Mary, the mother of Jesus
Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
Bllsht.
The people of Europe were worshiping the real gods through the queen of the May thousands of years before the hate cult of foreign desert slaves gods were forced upon them at sword point. They'll be worshiping them for thousands of years when the pathetic desert slaves gods are but a forgotten memory. Because the gods and goddesses of Europe share a real connection with the people of Europe and always will.

Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
Yes, exactly. The OP is "too Catholic" to really understand the RCC's profound connections to "what went before"
Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
Jesus is okay with me.
Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
Hes's okay with me too, but he was just a man, not the "son of god".

There is so much hate and intolerance in this paragraph, I don't even know where to start. And not all Europeans were worshipping the gods you're referring to either. Many Europeans worshipped different gods.
You do realise that pagan faiths are not exactly being shown in a positive light in this movie, right? But I guess because they killed a Christian, it's okay.

Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
Damn right. This movie showed the pagans to be just as destructively confused as has been Christianity. Anton LaVey the Satanist, of all people, had it right. The power of a sacrifice is in the biological throes of the victim, not in the death itself (least of all a burning death). This is the same biological throes as an orgasm. If those villagers wanted the apple crop to come back, all they had to do was individually masturbate amidst the trees. Or have sex with his or her partner amidst them. (I'm not joking.)
Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
There's a reason for that. That's because Christianity isn't a real religion. It's nothing but ritualized mockery of Judaism. Just an anti-Semitic hate cult with delusions of grandeur.
I see no reason to sugar coat and speak nicely of such a hate cult with such a blood soaked history as Christianity. The world would be a better place had it never existed.
There are only six major pantheons of European gods. The Greco-Roman, Norse/Germanic, Celtic, Slavic and Baltic.
I didn't refer to or specify ANY particular gods in my post, just the general European gods of these pantheons.
Yeshua Ben Yosef was born, lived and died a Jew. He was a rabbi, not a prophet to the world. His teachings were meant exclusively for the Jewish people but they were taken by sick and depraved corrupt power mongers, twisted into something hideous, given a sword and sent out to destroy the Jews and the other spiritual traditions of the world.
If he were alive I suspect he'd loudly demand that his name stop being used in association with this hate cult that has been behind the systematic killing and discrimination against his people and his Judaic religion and others for centuries.
Predator control is necessary activity. It's not pretty to watch.

You'd be better of withthe blood soaked atheism of Russia and China then.
Only those with no valid argument pick holes in people's spelling and grammar.
Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
Stalin was instrumental in the protection of the Russian Orthodox church and is directly responsible for it survival.
Christianity was the inspiration for Communism. It's responsible for Communism's top down hierarchy model. Communism could not have existed without Christianity to provide a blueprint for what to do. It's certainly responsible for Communism's predilection for the liquidation of it's perceived opponents. It does exactly the same as Christianity did before it to those who dissent. Murder them.

Re: Mary, the mother of Jesus
I thought this movie was a jab at Christianity:
1. The most strait-laced Christian, Howie, gets the least out of life, even among the other cops and church-goers.
2. The Island's boss being called "Lord" even having long hair at the end.
3. The Lord's comment when Howie scoffs about the girls getting pregnant w/o a man. He says Christianity claims the same thing about Mary. It sure stopped Howie in his tracks!
4. The Islanders all have a hell of a time acting out their religion. I think even those to be sacrificed get a bang out of it.
5. The idea of being at one with the land, plants & animals. That must've especially struck a chord back in the 70s.
6. At the end, Howie howling "Christ! Jesus!" and singing a hymn* doesn't save him .
(* Was that the same hymn the congregation sang at the beginning (ext. version)?)
